Reddish colored, moderate head, solid lace/retention. Aroma is chewy caramel, grapefruit, sugar, citrus. Medium bodied, watery mouthfeel. This is a red/amber ale.

Tap at Butcher and the Boar. Reddish amber pour with a big pillowy head. Some pine, caramel malts. Moderate mouthfeel. Fuck - 9 bucks with tip for this, and itís just okay.

Not sure about this one. Seems a bit confused in terms of what is going on here. Aroma is stinky with a malt undertone. Taste doesnít quite knock you on you ass. Itís malty with some hops. The burp is not great with caramel strangeness. Finish is not great. Oh well, I had high hopes--taste like home brew and not in the good way. There imperial stout is off the hook.

Bright burnt tangerine pour with a nice eggshell crown. Spotty lacing inside the glass. Fruity, yeasty, caramel, brown sugar, and a touch of citrus and alcohol. Didnít expect much and got what I expected.

22oz bomber pours with a clear deep copper body that has amber hues and supports a nice looking tan head of foam. The aroma offers up some sweet maltiness laced with hops, sweet crystal malts, malt sweetened citrus hops and a bit of spicy Belgian yeast amid a fruity ester like note. The taste has a modest malt sweetness and sweet crystal malt notes but the hops are where itís at. I get a good dose of bitter floral and earthy tea hops as well as resiny pine that flow quickly into spicy Belgian yeast. To midway as the earthy almost dank tea mix builds a modest grapefruit bitter hop note comes to the surface and helps bring this to the finish. Good stuff.

Bottle. Head is initially small, frothy, off-white to light brown, mostly diminishing. Body is dark amber to medium brown. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, caramel), moderately hoppy (resin, grapefruit), with notes of sour/decaying fruits (spoiled OJ, decaying banana peels, sour cherry, etc.), bile, bubble gum. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately to heavily bitter, unclean. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation, lightly to moderately astringent, moderately alcoholic. Wow, just awful. Iíve still yet to have a good Left Coast beer, and this is sadly no exception. Lots of raw hops and rotten/sour fruit odor in the nose, even some stomach acid too...not in the least bit enticing. And as portended, itís sour (an acrid, biting, infected type of sourness) and dirty in the mouth too, pretty much undrinkable. A true drain pour. Iíve always been kinda mystified why the Left Coast line is so consistently bad, since Iíve had some relatively decent Oggiís brews. Different head brewers of each line maybe?

Ruby red with a light head. Slight malt grain sweetness to the smell. Light pine sawdust bitter that malt mellows quickly. Leaves a lasing bitter behind.

Tap at Capitol Beer in Sacramento, CA. Pours sort of dark copper with a white head. Floral hop aroma. Med body or better. Some fruity esters, some darker malt. The fruit is somewhat dark. Yeast and spice develop. Itís really pretty good.
