This winter seasonal is in the style of a black IPA. It has the characteristics of an American IPA in having intense bold hop flavors with a twist of dark malt bringing out the roasted chocolate flavor. Three different types of hops and imported dark crystal malts are used to maximize this flavor and create fresh hop taste and aroma. It is dry-hopped in the fermenter to give it its great hop aroma. This brew was meant to be consumed immediately upon opening on that cold winter evening. Enjoy

A strong roasty body is evident throughout though it has a good amount of hops as well. Dark black but not quite imperial stoutish. This is a pretty good, albeit slightly heavy black IPA.

Bottle as shown. Pours a dark brown and ruby hue with small creamy beige head that lasts awhile. The aroma is coffee and roast. Medium mouthfeel with a sweet roast and chocolate with light bitter finish. A good black IPA from Left Coast.

Some subtle aromas of wet hops and chocolate. Deep, solid black in color with a thin rim at the top. Very smooth flavors of strong hop overtones with a burnt caramel, cocoa and toffee malt backbone. Overall, this is smooth and well balanced. Not bad at all. I’d give this a B+ rating.

Draft at Angel’s Trumpet. Pours an opaque dark brown with a small dark tan head that lasts. Aroma of rich, roasted malts, dark chocolate, earth, brown sugar, and a little bit of earthy hops. Very minor orange citrus. Same for the flavor. This leaned more roasty than hoppy. Light-medium bodied, with a roasty mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. More black than IPA.

Bottle shared with Parksy and Gripp. This was tasted alongside Strauss Boardwalk IPA, and both were great for possessing a nice balance between dark malts and hops, both had great flavours, and both had a nice PNW hop profile. This brew came across as slightly thinner in the body, and slightly less intense than Boardwalk, but they were pretty close.

22 oz bomber. Pours a dark brown-black with a one finger tan head and some lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts, bakers coco, citrus, some coffee and some woody grass notes. Taste is similar with a lot of dry roasty notes, medium hop bitterness, grapefruit, some coffee notes, and some charred wood notes. Has a medium body with a slightly watery but sitll somewhat creamy mouthfeel and a dry, moderately bitter finish. overall, a pretty decent, drinkable Black IPA that maybe a little light in body.

Earthy, chocolate aroma, with a hint of floral. Initial taste of chocolate and a bit of malt, which fades away to a light bitterness. The chocolate and malt would be mild for a stout, and the hoppiness mild for an IPA, but the amounts work nicely together (even though its more of one following the other than a blend of the two).
