COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This winter seasonal is in the style of a black IPA. It has the characteristics of an American IPA in having intense bold hop flavors with a twist of dark malt bringing out the roasted chocolate flavor. Three different types of hops and imported dark crystal malts are used to maximize this flavor and create fresh hop taste and aroma. It is dry-hopped in the fermenter to give it its great hop aroma. This brew was meant to be consumed immediately upon opening on that cold winter evening. Enjoy

On tap. Pours with a black body and a tan head that lasts. Aromas are fruity, mild esters, citrus, light tropical fruit hop character, dry roast, coffee, mild bready malt. Flavors show a big dry coffee presence, balancing citrusy hops, grapefruit and pine. Nicely dry and seems mostly devoid of caramel malt (a good thing). Tangerine zest. Medium bubbles, dry with a lasting bitterness. Medium bodied.

Verbiage on the bottle says that this is meant to be consumed on a cold winterís evening, but I have to tell you it went down very, very well on a warm spring afternoon.

22oz bottle-pours a light brown head and black color. Aroma is resin, some dark malt. Taste is resin hops with some bite, dark malt-roasty/ashy. Drying that finishes unpleasantly.

Poured into a shaker from a bomber. Pours a nice dark black with a thick creamy head. Has a lot of hop character in the aroma, especially pine, some chocolate and roasty aromas as well. Flavour is all about the dark malts. Lots of chocolate, and roastiness. Not to bitter, overall a nice blend of the sweet malt and bitter hops. Full bodied with a oily texture to it, finishes sweet and moderately dry. This is an excellent black ipa!

Pour: thick black with a large tan head, plenty of lacing. Aroma: bittersweet chocolate, woodsmoke and charcoal, hints of herbs and pine -- nice. Taste: strong bitterness tempered by dark, roasted, earthy flavors. Palate: thick and resinous, dry finish, lingering hops essence. This is a delicious beer, easy to drink and ever so satisfying.

A: The pour is a dark mahogany sort of color with a huge tan head that has excellent retention. S: A really nice nose to this beer consisting primarily of grapefruit with a nice lemon zest thing going on as well. Thereís quite a bit of floral hop aroma to it and overall itís quite perfumey. Some roast is there, but not as much as usual for a Black IPA. T: Not as impressive flavor-wise, but still good. Itís very bitter with a lot of pine and bitter grapefruit peel. Thereís a slight astringency as well as some grass hop notes. M: The body and carbonation are both medium. D: Iíve never been terribly impressed by this brewery, but this was really quite good. I would even drink this again.
