COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"At left coast Brewing Co., we pride ourselves on our seasonal line up, with Una Mas amber being our one for the Spring. This dark copper lager(Ale in Texas) is light in body and bursting with flavor. Styled after the popular amber lagers south of the border, Una Mas is the perfect Spring brew. Small amounts of dark roasted malts add a rich color without making it thick or chewy. Munich malt adds a rich toasty finish to the brew. Una mas will leave you wanting more."

170715. I picked up this bottle from Queens Plaza Beer and Wine. The label art catches the eye and the bottle sets itself apart from others on the shelf. I can easily envision myself sitting in that hammock drinking bottle after bottle of this beer. Deep copper almost red colour with a thin soft cushion of foam. The aroma is all toffee and caramel and is really quite sweet. The flavour is similar to the aroma with a big malt finish. While the beer is full bodied it is not overly chewy and the label is certainly right when it says that this beer will leave you wanting more.

12 ounce bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours slightly hazy/cloudy deep amber/copper color with a 1 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/bready malt and moderate earthy hop notes; with solid strength. Taste of brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, herbal, grass, light pepper, and yeast earthiness. Light herbal/spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of brown sugar, brown bread, toasted biscuit, light nuttiness, and herbal/yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Good balance, complexity, and robustness of dark/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; with a good malt/bitterness balance and no cloying flavors after the finish. Fairly clean on lager flavors with some light estery off flavor notes present. Light-medium carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth and lightly creamy/bready moutthfeel that is good. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a solid vienna lager. All around good robustness and balance of dark/bready malt and light-moderate earthy hop flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. No idea on age of this bottle; but some definite signs of age are there, with some off flavors from the yeast as well. Might be better when it’s fresh. A fairly enjoyable offering as it was.

This brew pours with an amber body topped by a medium thick head with some lacing. The flavor is slightly sweet and malty with slight toffee notes, a little sourness and a little fruitiness. The flavor is sweet and malty with notes of sweet fruit, toffee and a little bitterness. Meidum bodied, tingly on the tongue and slightly warming.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2004 Draught at Oggi’s Santa Clarita (the worst Oggi’ of all)
Amber body below a medium sized white head which leaves behind delicate lacing. Malty sweet with a surprising amount of hops for the style. Diacetyl, could be intentional, doesn’t detract from the beer. Well rounded and balanced, if only more lagers where like this

UPDATED: OCT 15, 2013 ~Pours an amber color with small lasting head.4 ~Light malty aroma with some spicy hops. Smells crisp. 6 ~Toasty malty flavor followed by a light bitterness. 5 ~Light feel, dry, bitter finish 3 ~Easy to drink would be refreshing on a hot day. The bitter taste is a bit strange. I dont think I will be saying "una mas" after this one. Not bad though. 12 Total Score 3.0 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ know ive had this before. I heard about it winning Best Of Show at California State Fair and had been wanting to try it. Stumbled across it on draft in Vegas and thought it was quite tasty. Decided to buy a bottle and give it another rating now that my appreaciation for different beers has improved. ~ Strong toasty bready biscuity malt aroma. Clean with light spicy hop chraracter. ~Pours a brownish copper color with quickly disappearing head. ~Strong toasty malt flavor, very bready nutty. Clean with spicy hop. ~medium bodied with medium CO2, balanced malty hoppy finish. ~A good beer for sure, but not really worthy of a BOS IMO and I usually am routing for the less popular styles to win.

Amber pour with a white head. Sweet malt aroma of toast, bread, and biscuit. Fruity esters, some yeast, and light floral hop aroma. Maybe a bit of earth, too. Sweet flavor of bread, biscuit, and toast. Nice fruitiness of pear and apple, some floral hops, yeast, and a very light earthy bitterness.

Bottle. Amber in color with a nice head. Aroma is full of grains. Taste is lightly roasted grains, a tad funky.

It’s a style I rather enjoy, this one. It appears as the way I imagine it will smell somehow. Coppery russet in colour, but clear and carrying the remnants of some ugly grey head. It smells of gorgeous caramel malts and bready yeastiness and tastes similar. It is sweet but not cloying and very drinkable.
