22oz bottle. Pitch black body, thin, patchy beige head. Syrupy chocolate aroma. Massive chocolate malt tones, rich and sweet. Not bad, but nor really competing with the other 57 Imperial Stout bombers on the shelf next to it. Oh wait, this is just an 8.5% Stout that costs $7.99 a bomber. Gotcha. Kinda creamy and mild in some respects, but has that unmistakable Imperial Stout oily specialty malt tone. Chocolate, vanilla, coffee. Standard, enjoyable brew.

From the bottle, the initial pour is dark brown espresso color with nearly no head, pretty thick and shiny. Aromas of booze, whiskey, dark chocolate, smoke. Very smooth and well balanced in flavor and texture. Caramel and milk chocolate, a little warmth and some powdery bitterness. It’s a high quality stout. Well balanced and full flavored with a mouthfeel that holds up well. Cop it when you find it.

12oz bottle pours A very dark brown to almost black with a mocha colored head. Decent lacing on the glass. Aroma is a solid nose of dark roasted malts, and some chocolate. The flavor is very good lots of roasted malts and chocolate and that sneaky alcohol burn in the middle but it doesn’t last very long. Overall a pretty darn good stout. Nice and creamy on the texture.

Bottle. Molasses and coffee nose. Rich. Fully opaque black body with some dark brown hues and a tan head. No lace. Lighter bodied than I would expect from an 8.5% abv imperial stout with engine oil consistency. Very smooth without the soy sauce aspect prevalent in many beers of this style. No predominant hop profile to speak of. Although flawless, the brew is quite frankly underwhelming.
