Two and half fingers of tan head on a black body. The pour had bubbles dancing all over. The aroma is roasted malt, dark chocolate and coffee. Really nice. The taste starts with a mild bitter, then dark bitter chocolate, a little caramel and finishes with milk. Amazing depth, complexity and development. Smooth texture with low carbonation and a heavy body. The taste was perfect and the rest of the beer supported it well.

Bottle from CBX. Black pour with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is heavy of the roasted barley malt, bitter cocoa, light ash, hints of coffee and just a touch of grassy hops. Creamy, bittersweet chocolate flavor with roasted maltiness, ash and hints of grassy hops. Milky body with carbonation on the low end. Fantastic rendition of a stout, not heavy and not light. Great balance throughout.

aroma: mexican chocolate, cinnamon, chai tea appearance: dark semi-opaque coffee body; beige and creamy head. taste: sweet chocolate milk; spicy cardamom; bitter but soft cocoa powder finish. palate: light body--thin and soft to flat carbonation. finishes really smooth. drank this really fast. could easily drink another. if the price was lower, this would be a go-to sweetish stout for me. not very complex, but refreshing and completely agreeable.

Prominent alcohol detracts from the overall flavour - lighter bodied than expected - kinda two dimensional roasted malt and earthy hops. Pleasant but not outstanding.

Bottle. Pours a clear flat black body under a one finger fizzy light brown head that slowly faded. The nose is fairly roasty, but there’s a lot of nutty and husky maltiness as well. It smells more like a brown ale than it does a Stout actually. The flavor is much the same, too much nutty and caramel maltiness and too little roasted and burnt malt. There’s a bit of roast and coffee on the finish, but hardly what I was expecting. Light to medium bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and a fairly short finish. At least the alcohol is pretty well hidden for being 8.5%. This one, not so good.

Once you get past the cheesy label, a great beer awaits. Dark murky brown to black in color, with thin beige head, creamy but not substantial like an Guinness. Nose is coffee, roast grains, dark chocolate, burnt toast. Taste is roast grains with a tinge of bitterness, deep burnt flavor lingers. Slick and velvety, goes down smooth.

Bottle. Thick and black as night. Drinks with an exceptionally thick, rich roasted character. Solid all the way ... the emphasis is definitely just on simple, darkly roasted malt. No over-the-top chocolate or java here ... just some good roast. Good stuff. (#5499, 4/27/2014)
