I can see why the World Cup of 2012 gave a bronze medal to this beer. It is smooth, not syrupy at all. Extremely well balanced in flavor, texture, and after taste. Strong coffee notes followed by the espresso. Great beer indeed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap in Grand Forks. A really decent stout. Dark, with foamy white head, some nice lacing. A bit of a nutty aroma. Malty, loads of roastiness to this and a touch of coffee. Quality.

A great stout. Aromas are coffee and chocolate and a touch of bubblegum. Flavors are sweet and milky. Chocolate and bubblegum. Toasted malts. Delicious.

Large sample at the Clay Oven, Irvine CA during a beer tasting with Indian food night on 14th July 2014. Having already tried their stronger Barrel Aged version this was a bit of an anti-climax but it is still a good solid tasty Stout. Black pour with a good tanned head. Plenty of roasted maltiness in the aroma and taste, full bodied and leaning towards bitter in flavour, more from the over roasted malts than a hop bitterness in my opinion. OK, but the Rye/Whisky barrel version shows this up as a base brew.

Very dark with little head. Good amount of hops with a burned coffee hint. Stout flavors with nice mix on alcohol. It’s average to above on my favorite list.

355ml bottle. Pours an opaque black, with a small beige head, which lasts reasonably well and leaves a little lacing. Black coffee, treacle and bittersweet dark chocolate make up the aroma. Herbal hops up front give way to bittersweet dark chocolate and a fruity, plummy character in the mid-palate. Black coffee, vanilla and cocoa make up the finish. A nice, characterful stout.

Appearance was clear jet black with diminishing tan creamy 1/2 finger head, spotty lacing. Aromas are roasted barley, coffee, chocolate, cocoa powder and hints of alcohol. Taste are roasted black, coffee, chocolate malts with touches of bitter cocoa nibs and alcohol. Palate was soft creamy smooth CO2 with medium body, then lasting smooth oily balanced finish. A great American stout.

Bottle from CBX. Black pour with a thick fluffy tan head. Aroma is heavy of the roasted barley malt, bitter cocoa, light ash, hints of coffee and just a touch of grassy hops. Creamy, bittersweet chocolate flavor with roasted maltiness, ash and hints of grassy hops. Milky body with carbonation on the low end. Fantastic rendition of a stout, not heavy and not light. Great balance throughout.
