Poured from bottle into a tulip glass. Pours a dark brown black with a small tan head that initially recedes. Very little lacing left on the glass. Aroma is of dark chocolate with a little bit of coffee. Taste is roasted and chocolatey. Low carbonation with a thin mouthfeel.

ALLOVATE (2475) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - DEC 24, 2014
Deepest, darkest cola brown with good clarity and a tinge of ruby. Not much of a head; falls immediately to a mere ring of tan. Nose is dominated by meaty, roasted, salty and savoury umami notes with licks of OXO cubes, tobacco, molasses, tar, heavily roasted cacao beans and heated alcohol. Rather dry and lean on the palate. Pasty with a smooth finish. Quite spicy, peppery with a burnt malt and tarrish mid-palate and roasted coffee bean back end. Smoky ashen malts in the linger. Doesn’t hit. Very little depth. OK drinking but that is all. Disappointing! (65cL, no date stamp, The Liquor Shed, Jandakot)

Bottle from Food Pantry Waikiki 231214. Thick and sludgy in the mouth with a thick consistency. Bitter finish, chocolate and lido rice flavours. Big bold beer.

355ml bottle. Jet black colour with small to average, thick, creamy, half-way lasting, moderately lacing, tan head. Intense, roasty dark malty aroma, a touch of coffee, chocolate, roasted grain. Taste is dry roasty dark malty, some sweet malt notes with chocolate and coffee touch; lasting, dry, minimally metallic finish with more burnt than just roasted dark malt flavours. Soft, creamy, minimally sticky palate.

Pours dark dark brown almost black with a tan head that fades fast to a rim. Aroma is chocolate malt with a touch of licorice. Taste follows with roasted malt flavor and a slight coffee bitterness. Very flavorful. Wet on the palate. A bit sour. Enjoyable.

Oily brown black, with a bit of camel colored head. Aroma is rich and roasty, with smooth marshmallowy tones, and coffee. Taste is more coffee and cocoa than anything else, and there’s a sharp hop bite to it as well, with some alcohol burn into the finish. $6/22oz
