4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Black pour with a 1 finger, soapy to creamy tan head that has good retention. Aroma is full of roast and nutty notes, some chocolate, dark coffee, burnt sugar, licorice and light, but sharp dark fruit notes. Flavor is slightly sweet caramel and chocolate up front, reminds me of a Riesenís candy, actually, then a little char, nutty notes, coffee, a little toffee, light leather and mineral notes and some light fruity and pine notes to the finish. Medium body with a creamy feel throughout and a light to moderate carbonation with a fairly soft feel. Very good stuff overall, the flavor profile is dead on, I could drink a ton of this stuff, unfortunately the price and alcohol content means I wonít.

The first thing that came to my mind was "Bourbon", I thought it might have been aged in Bourbon barrels but no, it is just the thick barley and the 8.5% ABV conspiring to trick me. Plenty of roastyness (if thatís even a word). Smells like Iím going to need a spoon for this. Dark like a bar of unsweetened baking cocoa, has the scent of one too. Small light brown head, leaves nice lacing "rings". Wow, thick & rich, fudge, burnt toast, espresso with a sweet follow and a bittersweet aftertaste. Kudos to the Left Coast lads, this is a treat!

Very nice. Light carbonation leaves this so easy drinking. Smokey, roasty, sweetness equals very tasty.

bottle. lots of sweetness in aroma with milk chocolate and maple syrup over oatmeal. no hop aroma. flavor has rich chocolate with caramel and intensely sweet maple syrup notes. faint floral hop notes in finish. silky texture and full bodied. just canít beat a good standard american stout sometimes. not sure iíd call this imperial and iím not buying 8.5%.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Rated as an American Stout, this was poured into a nonic pint glass.
The appearance was a black color with a one finger white to off white foamy head. It dissipated at a nice pace. Lacing slides into the beer nice and slow.
The smell had a sweet to roasty smooth blended coffee to chocolate goodness. A light bitter side of the coffee beans ends up showing up to balance nicely.
The taste was a nice blend of sweet to roasty blended cocoa to bitter coffee. A light sweet roasty coffee to sweet cocoa leads in the aftertaste and blends into the finish.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. Carbonation rides nice and low allowing a semi-smooth to creamy/semi-sticky feel clinging to my tongue.
Overall, I say this was a pretty good American stout but I donít see it as an Imperial just because the ABV is high. Besides, the ABV wasnít really noticed.

3.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Not sure where I purchased, either from The Beer Store or Brewmasterís in Wilson. Black hue, zero visibility with almost fully lasting creamy dark khaki head. Excellent lacing. Dark creamy chocolate malt aroma. Chocolate malt ball taste up front with more of an espresso finish. The after taste got worse as the experience went on. This had a creamy yet chewy mouth feel. Pretty good imperial stout.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20
Aroma is coffee, mocha, chocolate, roasted malts and light clove. Taste is like the aroma with a deep rich maltiness almost chewy in mouthfeel. Well balanced with light bittering hops. Appearance is black with a thin brown head that retains fairly well.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
35.5cl bottle, served in Shaker.Pours black with beige head. The aroma is a strange blend of roasted malts, some candy and smoke. Taste is quite smoky along with coffee notes, it is curious that seems even more smoky than most smoked beers. Very little sweetness on the aftertaste with significant bitterness. Full body, good carbonation. Nice beer, smoked beer fans would really enjoy this one.
