COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

S: A very nice gold color. Clear. Not overly carbonated. A: Not much there. A slight bready smell. T: Toasty, biscuity flavor. Some malt. Some hops. Good balance of flavor. Overall: Not that impressed. This beer is good, but not overwhelmingly so. Worth trying. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Thin, lacy head. Mild biscuity nose. Long bitter finish, with very little floral accents. A mild, very drinkable style IPA.

A solid IPA. Pours orangy golden. Crisp with a little bite to it. Would definitely have again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

lusikka (2052) - Tampere, FINLAND - FEB 2, 2012
Draught @ Olutravintola Konttori, Tampere.
Pours a cloudy golden colour with a strong lacy head. Aroma of sweet caramel, grass and some floral notes. Flavour of caramel malts, fruits, old floral hops, pine needles, citrus and grass. Medium bodied, slick mouthfeel, rough carbonation and a very bitter, light fruity finish. Tastes a bit old but is still in a decent shape.

Very strong caramel flavor. Not very hoppy. I would have expected much more body, based off of the name 400 lb monkey.

Clear light amber in color, with a small but laceful foamy head. Nose of earthy toffee and a firm herbal hoppiness. The flavor was interestly herbal full of British pale malt and toffee tones. Also has a weird but delightful fruitiness on the end. Very balanced but also firmly hoppy.
