COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

This one poured a hazy yellow color with a white head. Aroma was of pale yellow malt, grassy , some citrus and wheat. Falvor was hoppy wheat beer basically. Meh.

Pale gold, tall but quickly collapsing head, little lace. Attractive nose. Light to medium body, avg texture, low acidity, mouthfeel benefits from high carbonation as otherwise it would be flat. Short palate, weak finish. Bitter and dry but also malty, low acidity. Grapefruity. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Amber color with slight hop aroma. Was of course wanting more hops on my palate but a good version of a traditional English style IPA. Will drink again

Drank from the bottle. Smells of dough, hay, cereal, and hops. Taste is not as hoppy as I was expecting, the focus seems to be placed on the malt. Not overly bitter, Medium bodied low carbonation. Solid beer

Bottle. Pours a clear gold body under a one finger fizzy white head that left just a touch of delicate lacing. The nose is pretty well balanced between the lightly citrusy and perfume like hops and a pale malt base. The flavor is just lightly bitter with some nice clean English hops. The malt base is nicely dry and bready. Lighter bodied with soft fizzy carbonation and some minimal lingering bitterness. Pretty decent IPA, not a big brash West Coast kinda IPA, but enjoyable.

Pours a light gold with 1 finger head. Mild aroma of hops and malt. Tastes nice and balanced with hop, malt and caramel notes. Only had a small taste as wide was drinking it.

I love English IPA’s, and this does not disappoint.. Malty aroma blends well with the hop. Clear light amber color. Has that distinctive British taste and palate. Love it.
