COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Bottle in the Sheffield Tap. hazy amber with a cream head. The taste is spicy with citrus and caramel notes. Could do with stronger flavours really.

From a bottle. An amber pour with a thin eggshell color head that faded quick. No lacing present. No significant aroma. Has a metallic taste. Medium body that was dry and bitter on the palate. A very uninteresting beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

ManVsBeer (5461) - Hebden Bridge, West Yorkshire, ENGLAND - FEB 13, 2015
Bottle from Fox & Goose, Hebden Bridge. Slightly hazy golden with a small head and a small carbonation. Has some IPA style, but it’s not very stated. There’s caramel in its nose, but hot so much in taste which mainly has a longer low-bitterness finish. Some of its strength is evident but it hardly impacts on the ale.

Metallic funk dominates the aroma, with some caramel and citrus once you hunt for it. Happily, the taste is a lot better, with biscuit, bready malt and grassy, pine bitterness. To me this is more like an ESB than an IPA, but either way it’s pretty good

Bottle. Golden with a white foam. Aromas are leafy with herbal tea and lemon. Multigrain with sharp pithy grapefruit. Hints of shit with earthy notes and bready yeast. Flavours are sweet mixed grains with orange rind and lemony yeast. Hedgerow with green pine and a pithy palate. Decent.

Quite good and soft for the style. Nice aroma and a little bit of spices can be sensed in there too.

Poured from a bottle. Very pale amber color. Almost no head but nice lacing. First swallow was very earthy and bready. Nice hoppy aftertaste though I wouldn’t really call it an IPA. I liked it though.
