COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Very Fluffy head with a very impressive lacing, large clumps of fluff form rings around the glass as it goes down. Aroma is nonexistent. The flavor is creamy, mostly from the head, hoppy, smooth. Some light pale malt flavors. Palate has a long lasting hoppy aftertaste. Very warming, but nothing to write home about. On Tap at Flying Saucer, Nashville.

Bottle @ Beer Temple. Clear golden color, short head. Soft hoppy aroma, bit grassy, bit floral, hint of grain. Soft bitter taste. A bit boring to be honest.

Bottle shared by Robert at SL! Pour was full straw golden color, just short of amber. The head was on the small side. Aroma of strong grass type hops, almost a pilsner smell with some grains underneath. The flavor followed, really strong bittering hops of grassy notes. Mouthfeel was strongly carbonated, a bit on the lighter side of moderate in body. Came across overall as a highly hopped lighter pilsner in many ways. Thanks, Robert!

Bottle @ Beertemple. Murky brownish orange, medium head. Aroma is lots of sweaty blue cheese hops. Flavour is blue cheese again with smoke and a sweet malty backbone. Lingers on for quite a bit.

bottled on 3/25/10 poured a light brownish yellow in color with a thin covering of white head. aroma has caramel, malt, light citrus, and bitter side hops. mouth feel is clean and crisp with low side carbonation. flavor I really only get the bitter hops, malts, somewhat washed out, and light perfume on the finish. I can see the english thing they were after but for some reason this just does not do it for me.

On tap at the White Horse American Beer Festival, 4th July 2010. Bright golden amber with a white head. Citrus, grapefruit on the nose. Really fresh in the mouth, lots of lovely dry, citrus hop flavours. Perfect weight and a lengthy aftertaste. Incredibly drinkable. Great pump picture too! One of my beers of the festival.

This bottled brew from a bottle shop poured a head of foamy finely sized off-white colored bubbles that were mostly diminishing and left behind a softly carbonated transparent . The mild aroma was citrus and malty. The mouth feel was weakly tingly at the start and at the finish. The flavor contained notes of mild citrus floral and hops. A decent one that I would consider buying again.
