COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Bottle at home. Clear amber pour. Small white head. Aroma is musty hops, sweet, rubber. Weird. The flavor is sweet with a clean bitterness. Very one dimensional, lacks flavor. Maybe a bit of citrus and caramel. Tastes a bit roasty. Weird.

Bottle at Exmouth Arms. I wanted something easy going before the school run, and this beer went down nicely. Clear dark orange. Lightly sweet and citrusy up front. Bitter and piney on the back. Light to medium body. Nice.

Clear golden beer with a thin, foamy head and a sweet, hoppy aroma. The flavour is deceptively mellow, feeling like it’s going to be a meaty one when it first hits your tongue but it’s pretty smooth in the end. Tangy fruit, caramel malt. It’s balanced nicely and quaffable if unspectacular.

330ml bottle from favourite beers. And day 20 of the advent Calander. Golden colour with white head. Aroma has toffee and fruit. The taste has fruit with a buttery toffee background.

pours a clear rich gold with a small white head. Aroma is faint floral and citrus. Taste is bright with some citrus, then bitter. Hoppy for sure, but not as citrusy as most IPA’s. Long bitter but warming finish. I can’t really put my finger on why, but I really like this IPA. Good beer!

Has a golden pour with a thin eggshell color head that faded quick. No lacing present. There’s a slight fruit, caramel, and floral aroma. Has a citrus, caramel, grapefruit, and floral taste. Medium body that was dry and bitter on the palate. Not bad, but not great.

bottle from mother kelly’s nice little malty aroma and a good looking amber colour not over the top hoppy but a little bit in the taste and a nice dry bitter finish on the after taste

Bottle from Sugaya. Fruity nose, moderate, ripe peach, with light citrus. Bright gold/amber color. Malty initial, some toffee, light caramel, gentle fruity sweetness, and minor back-end bittering with a touch of pepper. Not a standout, but certainly pleasant.

Pours a thick orange gold with a fast disappearing off white head. Aroma of salty floral hops. Flavor is malt to the top with citrus and silky hop bitterness. Finish is gypsum bitterness that goes all the way down.
