COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Thin, lacy head. Mild biscuity nose. Long bitter finish, with very little floral accents. A mild, very drinkable style IPA.

Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderate floral hop aroma. Appearance: small, rocky, off-white, initial head with fair lacing and mostly diminishing longevity. Hazy, light-amber body. Taste: lightly bitter initial flavor and lightly sour, grapefruit-like finish with long duration. Palate: medium-to-full bodied with dry texture and soft carbonation. Overall: excellent. Great hoppy aroma, but not excessively bitter.

Bottle at home, this wasn’t a great beer in my opinion, forgot to make notes, but this beer wasn’t that special, even though the shop owner highly recommended it... last time i will listen to shop owners.

I guess this is OK for the style - but I really don’t like the English IPAs which just means less floral and aromatic hops.

8,8,8,8,11,8 - 8,15 - 1/6/13

Too much of a caramel finish for me. Did not know it was an English IPA. I like a beer with more of a hoppy finish and aroma. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

355ml bottle, 24/05/13. Pours a translucent golden ornage with a white foam blanket. Aroma is caramel, resin, some nettles, light juniperiness. Taste is dry. Very resinous and lots of caramel, light nettles. Grows stronger and a bit prickly and stuffy, even alcoholic on the finish. Light floweriness. Lemon in the aftertaste. Slick, medium, not much carbonation.

most of the beers coming out of Colorado these days are garbage

Pours a clear dArk yellow with a small white head. Aromas of mineral water, some light garbage juice. Taste is festering maggots crawling over feces. No.

12oz bottle. Pours a slightly hazy light orange color with one finger of foamy white head. Aroma of floral & piney hops, and some caramel malt. Taste is also floral & citrusy hops, bready malts, honey, and some grass.
