COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isnít for everybody Ė yet. Over the years weíve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldnít make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didnít want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and weíre back playing again with a few new test batches that weíre sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. Whatís in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ĎExtremely Boringí. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and youíll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Iím not a fan of IPAs, and this isnít a typical IPA. Iím really liking this one. Itís not too bitter, but has just enough bite and bitterness lingering behind.

Bottle - nearly clear gold with very slim white head. Malty aroma with some floral hop. Flavours are a bit more interesting, caramel, malts, some herbs, bitter finish. Lightish medium body, softly carbonatied. Unremarkable but not bad.

Bottle to shaker glass. Pours slightly hazy gold, two finger quick head, nice lace and retention. Aroma is earthy grass and herbal. Taste is lightly bitter and slightly sweet. Medium-light body, medium carbonation, slightly resin mouth feel. Finishes with a nice lingering bitterness with notes of caramel, butterscotch, lemon rind and pine. Itís a good English style IPA, but average for an IPA overall.

Tasted from bottle. Pour a clear gold with white head that fades quickly. Aroma of stale malts. Grass, grains and some floral aromas. Moderate to heavily sweet and moderate bitterness. Has a strange almost metallic aftertaste which I'm not a fan off. Little overly sweet to me. Caramel and toffee with some grains flavors. Overall a below average ipa in my opinion. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Drank from a pint glass poured from a twelve ounce bottle at the Smiling Moose. A nice dark yellowish, gold with almost white head. I really enjoyed this IPA the hop aroma and flavor wasnít overpowering as most IPAís are.

Bottle thanks to s_hartshorne for Christmas. Golden amber beer with small head. Aroma of tropical fruits and light hop juice. Taste is bitter pine resin, stewed hops and tropical fruits. Decent.

Bottle at Exmouth Arms. I wanted something easy going before the school run, and this beer went down nicely. Clear dark orange. Lightly sweet and citrusy up front. Bitter and piney on the back. Light to medium body. Nice.

Clear golden beer with a thin, foamy head and a sweet, hoppy aroma. The flavour is deceptively mellow, feeling like itís going to be a meaty one when it first hits your tongue but itís pretty smooth in the end. Tangy fruit, caramel malt. Itís balanced nicely and quaffable if unspectacular.
