COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Not as big as I thought it would be. With a name like 400 pound monkey I was expecting a hop bomb..but it isn’t...not a bad thing at all. Good beer. I would buy more of it and drink more of it. If your looking for a super hopped up beer this is not it.

I love English IPA’s, and this does not disappoint.. Malty aroma blends well with the hop. Clear light amber color. Has that distinctive British taste and palate. Love it.

Clear light golden color with white head. Herbal and floral aroma. Sweet caramel biscuity malt start. Finish is spicy herbal light citrus hop. Not much bitterness in finish. Nice English style IPA.

Floral aroma with some malts. Guess the English style is the interlude of graininess between the earthy up front hops and the bitter aftertaste. A bit light, but a unique IPA.

bottle. amber with small head .rather light body with mild hop bitterness. was expecting a far bigger beer than this from the name, but this is solid.

Ins Glas ergießt sich ein oranges Bier mit schöner Schaumkrone. Geruch sehr malzig, hopfig fruchtig, bitter. Geschmack intensiv fruchtig hopfig, stark malzig.

The IPA is unique. The hops aroma is pleasant without the dominant citrus that might be expected. The mouthfeel is smooth cut by the acidity of the plentiful hops. The flavor is good but the malt backbone is somewhat muted and it limits my ability to really like the beer.

On tap 6 oz. sampler at The Bistro in Old Line Wine in Beltsville, MD. Clear, bright amber with a small off-white head and very good lacing that does not persist. Aroma of English pale malt, caramel, pine and bread. Taste of caramel, pine, apples, light floral hops, peaches and orange. Medium/full body and medium/low carbonization. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Draft to taster. Looks solid; a transparent lighter golden orange with foamy eggshell head. Smells of hops and lightly sweet pale malt with a hint of grain. Tastes like it smells, but blander, and with some unbalanced bitterness as well. Average (at best) on the palate. Eh.
