COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Okay, this one isn’t for everybody – yet. Over the years we’ve been asked to brew a year-round IPA, but have balked at the idea because of the flood of American IPAs currently on the market. If we couldn’t make an IPA that was different what was available, that we personally liked to drink, and one that we could put our personal signature on and be proud of, we didn’t want to do it. So, last fall we brewed a single batch IPA on our new brewhouse and sent it out to 5 different markets around the country to test the response. Which turned out to be pretty positive. So, here we are in 2009, and we’re back playing again with a few new test batches that we’re sampling here in Colorado and a few select markets around the country. What’s in a name, you ask? Well, back in February of 2007, there was an article in there titled ‘Extremely Boring’. Go back and find that issue, and that specific article, and you’ll see why we named the beer 400 Pound Monkey. Happy sleuthing!

Pour is slightly hazed bright golden orange with a thin off white head that stuck to the glass well...smell is lightly toasty with some light hints of resin and grapefruit...taste is nicely balanced between some toasted bread and light bitterness...sadly there is a hint of cardboard in there too...this could have been a really solid IPA.

The aroma is grassy, spicy, floral, hop forward. The apperance is clear gold/orange, white head. The flavor is caramel, floral, earth. The finish is like flavor, sweet, but floral hops at the end. Medium, slightly thick in body, oily. Not bad at all.

Extra pale gold (not expected) with a faint head. Malt, hops and caramel in the nose. Roasted malt and light marmalade across the tongue. Notable depth of hop flavor and bitterness without being overpowering. Decent beer and pretty balanced, while still being an IPA.

From notes: Poured hazy pale amber, with a small thin white head. Bright, citrusy hops aroma. Medium-bodied, a touch on the thin side. Flavor of mild citrusy hops with some yeast mixed in the finish.

Botella de 330ml. Vaso de ½ Pinta. Saboreada en may´12. Color dorado y apariencia algo velada. Espuma blanca y corona tupida con retención fugaz. Un collar permanence en lo alto. Intensos aromas de lúpulo, trazos de pino y Madera. Entrada amarga y gentil malteado moderado. 330ml bottle. ½ Pint glass. Enjoyed on may´12. Golden color, chill haze appearance. White froth, close crown. Brief retention. Remaining collar on top. Intense hoppy aromas, hints of piney & wood. Bitter upfront & gentle mildy maltiness. Light body, soft carbonation. Subtle fruitness in the middle. Oils & resins into the finish with a funny touch have made me feel green medlar astringency (curious!) Very easy drinkability. Refreshing.

12oz bottle. Rating #616. Solid Ipa, very drinkable, seemed a little more like a pale ale to me. Nice overall, something I could put back on a warm day. (2371)

Tap. Clear gold with quick head. Scent is faint hop, fruit. Taste is very mild, nothing overdone. Just a very smooth, easygoing IPA. A decent, solid beer.
