Draft. Poured clear brown with an average frothy tan head that was mostly lasting with very good lacing. Moderate smoke malt aroma. Medium to full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. Medium to heavy sweet smoked flavor with a medium to heavy sweet finish of moderate duration. Complex good beer.

Draft. Ruby maroon color, medium off white head. Aroma of burnt bacon, charred wood. Taste has a core of summer fruit engulfed in campfire. Interesting.

Tap @ The Mayor of Old Town Fort Collins. Pours a dark red orange appearance with a creamy light brown head. Somewhat woody, smoky, light meat, chewy caramel aroma. Meaty smoky, burnt caramel malty, a bit herbal, toasty flavor.

On tap at Tapwerks. Pours a clear very deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces. Aroma has a rich smokey note that even imparts a bit of bacon with a sweet dark grains. Flavor starts with the same bacon smoke note with a bit of underlying dark gains and a hint of roast.

1/29/13. On tap at Kickback?s. Amber red copper pour with a small khaki head that lasts but barely laces. Nice smoke character with a good dose of sweetness in the aroma. The flavor is along the same lines - obvious smoke, but not overwhelming in any way - with a nice caramel sweetness. In a way, it reminds me of sweet barbecue. I actually dig it!

Taster on tap at Ei8ht Ball. Clear red orange amber color. Minimal off-white head. Dots and ropes of lace. Bigger body, kind of slick. Crisp, lighter carbonation. Good big meaty smokey aroma, more meaty than your typical smoked ale, I think. Dry rub meat, ooh yeah. Moderate bigger bitter and a savory taste. Some dark fruit, some fruity tropical hop. Very interesting, intense smoked doppelbock. (listed as 10.5% at Ei8ht Ball, probably a mistype)

Draft at Ei8ht Ball. Pours a clear deep amber color with a thin off white head. The aroma and flavor have a big smoked character, malty, some sweetness, earth. Not too bad.

Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Looks good for the style; a transparent dark copper with thin off-white head. Smells of SMOKE first and malt second. Tastes like it smells with a touch of oxidization. Average on the palate. A solid example of the style.

On tap at Hops & Pie. Clear dark chestnut with a light beige head. Smokey peppercorn bacon on the aroma--lovely, with an underlying earthy toffee-ish tone. Flavor is a big pile of fun. Gently smokey, kinda meaty, a little salty, sweet earthiness, with a light peppery smokey ending. Quite a smokey treat, without being too smokey or too roasty.
