Comes out of the tap black - not sable, not very very very dark brown, but BLACK, black as Darth Vader’s armor, with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Smoky aroma has a strong note of quality roast coffee and hints of chocolate and licorice. Flavor has a roast malt core and notes of quality mocha and molasses with a hint of caramel, fairly sweet but not overly so. Texture is a teeny on the thin side for a porter, but has good fizz and smoothness. Very worthy!

Transfer from BA review on 9-6-12- Served on tap in a 10 oz chalice glass Appearance – Served a deep-deep brown nearly black beer with a one finger tan head. The head a faded relatively fast to give light lacing. Smell – The aroma is of roasted and dark smells. Coffee is the strongest, but there is a strong presence of chocolate, and some char and roasted malt as well. Rounding these out is a light caramel aroma. Taste – The taste begins with the roasted malts, some chocolate, sweet caramel and a good dose of coffee. The caramel however fades and as the coffee grows stronger in taste the brew bitters in taste ever so lightly. These slightly bitter dark flavors take the taste to the end where a light char flavor and some sweetness comes back to the tongue, helping to deliver an overall very roasty flavor. Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the medium side with a carbonation level that is rather average as well. A little thicker body may have been better for the roasted and dark flavors, but the feel is not bad as it accentuates the easy drinking nature. Overall – The beer is a nice, semi-sweet roasty brew. Good if you are feeling something with a good dose of roast, but that is yet still very easy drinking and “light” in body.

1 day old from growler from Ray’s in Tosa’s new "growler gallery". Pours a very, very dark brown with a tan head leaving light spots of lace. Aroma is coffee ... and coffee. Fresh green coffee beans, with rich, roasty espresso kicking in behind. Later some lactose and some caramel show through. Taste is of sweet cocoa, heavy roast, sweet milk chocolate, and some caramel malt. Actually a bit thin - likely medium bodied. Finishes more sweet than bitter on that bitter-sweet scale, but with solid enough roast to maintain some balance. A nice fresh - coffee forward - brew! 14.1

On tap at Mayor of OldTown. Pours near black with an impressive tan head and a chocolate and treacle aroma. There is a medium-bodied chocolate malt flavor with lots of coffee.

Draft at sb. Pours black with a dense and creamy surging tan head. Huuuge coffee nose, like a fresh mug of decent overly roasted supermarket coffee. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Roasty coffee mid palate. Long roasty dry coffee finish.

Pours a standard dark color with a heavy lacing tan head. Strong coffee aroma with an much easier coffee flavor than expected from the smell. Even finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Glass at 101 Beer Kitchen. Pours darkest brown with a medium tan head. Aroma of coffee and chocolate. Big coffee flavor with some chocolate before a slightly nutty and bitter roasty finish.

Draught. This is really nice deeply roasted coffee stout with lots of thick coffee flavor to go around.

Dark, but not heavy. Deeply coffee flavored, but not overpowering. A delicious change of pace from richer stouts or porters while still keeping a similar flavor profile.

On tap at Joe Canals West Deptford.
Appearance: The body is deep chestnut hiding light through all but the edges. The head is short and foamy, short lived too, just a soapy light tan mess on top.
Aroma: The aroma is prominently coffee with a hint of mocha, very nice if you like coffee. The aroma has good strength and is nicely separated instead of muddled together.
Taste: Prominent, but not out of balance, coffee runs through the palate with a minor malty backing hinting at cocoa. The finish lingers of cold coffee with a hint of hazelnut creamer and mocha.
Palate: This is a bit thin, but moderately carbonated.
Overall: The only real gripes I have are the lack of depth in the aroma and flavor. The coffee dominates, in a nice way, but there’s little more to add to this. I really enjoy it though.

Tap. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy light brown head. The nose is huge on the coffee, some nice chocolate and roast notes as well. It tastes more like a coffee than a beer actually, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing for me. The malt backbone is a bit thin though, and doesn’t really provide all that great of a structure for the coffee to rest on. Lighter bodied with fizzy carbonation and a lingering coffee finish. Ok, but not the best Porter.
