4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Comes out of the tap black - not sable, not very very very dark brown, but BLACK, black as Darth Vader’s armor, with a fine-bubbled tan head that leaves generous lacing. Smoky aroma has a strong note of quality roast coffee and hints of chocolate and licorice. Flavor has a roast malt core and notes of quality mocha and molasses with a hint of caramel, fairly sweet but not overly so. Texture is a teeny on the thin side for a porter, but has good fizz and smoothness. Very worthy!

on tap @ Vino Bellissimo / Lima OH --- Opaque brown/black color, smooth beige head, sheets of lace. Appealing aroma of roasted malt. Taste is velvety smooth roasted malt that swells into a lightly fizzed swallow, then glides to a rich, chocolatey finish. This is better than Left Hand Milk Stout, which is a solid brew in its own right. Superb!!

On tap during the Milk Stout Nitro release party during GABF 2011 week. Dark dark brown with a light tan head. Nice roasty coffee aroma and roasty black malt. Flavor had a lot of brewed coffee overtones...lots. Rich dark malt, a touch of chocolate, and a subtle light bitterness on the finish. Sweet and dessert like but on a quaffable medium-full body. Just lovely!

On draft @ Sunset Grill and Tap. Nose of a fresh bag of Italian roast coffee. The coffee dominates the flavor with a lot of roasted malts. If you are a coffee lover , you are going to enjoy this. EXCELLENT at room temperature!!. I have nothing bad to say. I hope I get a chance to try this again. A great after dinner porter.

Growler @ Cumming Growler. Black pour, dark as black coffee! Dark brown foam, thick head. Aroma is complex. Smells of rare coffee beans, chili powder, dark ground chocolate, cold espresso grounds. Taste is all coffee, sharp, bitter, & black. Some sweet malts hidden in there, not sure about hops. It’s all coffee. High cocao chocolate bitterness, lingering black coffee flavors. Hopefully it doesn’t keep me up all night! (3734)

Black with a dark tan head. Aroma is strong black coffee. Flavor is roasted coffee malt with a touch of sweetness. A tad bitter in the finish, but not unpleasantly so.

Had this beer very recently on tap at Merchants in Lawrence, so its a bit of a surprise that this was a 2011 beer. Very nice, though. Not much head, but a deep, rich coffee character.

On tap at the brewery, nice dark brown with khaki colored head. Aroma has notes of coffee and espresso, some chocolate, roast, and slight burnt toast notes. Taste is very coffee forward, like drinking an iced coffee but as a beer. Lots of coffee bean and espresso notes, with some dark chocolate, toffee, roast and bread notes, finishing nice and bitter from the roast and coffee. Delicious!

16 ounce pint - $6.25 at Taco Mac in Kennesaw, Georgia.
Appearance: Near black body in appearance capped with a smallish, dusty tan head.
Smell: Roasty aroma, certainly coffee-scented. It’s aromatic though not bold, as in smelling a breakfast blend versus Italian roast. Also snippets of semi-sweet chocolate, burnt toast, and caramel.
Taste: Chocolate leads trailed by the chilled, sugar sweetened coffee wrapping up the roasted malt. Then, some lesser tastes of toast and caramel roll in. Medium-plus sweetness. I never pick up any apparent hop flavors and the bitterness seems more a function of the roasted malts and coffee additive than anything else. Like a pinball trying to pick up a few extra points, the flavor bounces back and forth and around the chocolate and coffee until the gentle finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation.
Overall: A solid if straight-forward porter overneath a pleasing coffee flavor. The thumb points up!

Pitch black with a moderate beige head. A huge whack of coffee in the nose with some chocolate. The flavor is so much coffee it hurts. Its not a coffee beer flavor this just coffee. I’ve never tasted a beer that is exactly like coffee. After an afternoon of belgians, I need this. Overall brilliant.
