A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

Bottle from McHughs. Pours dark brown. Good clarity with thin to no head. Aroma is lactose, Ester dark fruit, coffee, chocolate. Sweet dark fruit with lactose. Creamy mouthfeel. Smooth. This isn’t a traditional Porter. It’s like a sweet stout.

Black Jack has a nice creamy and persistent foam. It smells not of much, but in terms of taste it is pretty good. It has a pleasant taste of English licorice and also has a hop profile that is somewhat atypical compared to type. The alcohol is prominent and it is a porter who is incredibly tasteful and rich.

From a bottle. Pours very dark brown with a fizzy bubbly tan bead. Tastes like sweet chocolate malt, roasted nuts, and woody with a hint of ash. Light/medium body and carbonation. Smells like roasted malt, nutty, chocolate, woody, light earth.

From the 12 fl oz bottle. Dark brown pour. Lots of milk chocolate in the aroma. Some earthy hop notes. Light to medium body. The taste has a big milk chocolate sweetness with a dry bitterness lingering at the end.

Keg @ Craft Beer Cafe Halifax. Nothing like a porter but good. When cold from keg smooth with initial nutty mouthfeel like melted hazelnut ice cream splashed with a dash of Speyside single malt. Well balanced. Very slight porter hints once warmed up. More mellow smoky roast comes through with a slight berry aroma. Hint of vanilla pod. Now I’m getting marshmallow - this beer is like something created by Willy Wonka. Now the hops are coming through with more roast after 20 mins. Bitterness towards the last mouthfull like cold espresso. Brilliant beer.
