4.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20
UPDATED: AUG 23, 2013 This is an excellent porter. Slight sweetness to start with a good finish. Drinking it is slightly making up for the fact that the guys I’m with are switching between hockey and televised fishing an hour before the Super Bowl starts, but not nearly enough.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: JAN 29, 2015 Nose has a surprising amount of licorice, along with bitter cacao, coffee, and nutty malt. The licorice turns to balancing aromatic hop on the palate, along with plenty of cocoa, some coffee, and nutty and roasty malts. Nice hopping (earthy and mellow from the Kent Goldings) along with the carbonation provides an easy mouthfeel and drinkability that makes me want to drink more than one of this dark beer. A solid porter.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Clear, reddish-brown beer, no lacing, big head fades off, pleasant warm alcoholic malty smell. Aftertaste isn’t wonderful, a little too effervescent. Good mouthfeel, nice taste, nutty for a porter, not too alcoholic taste, malty, good overall.

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Black brew with small head that dies fast. At first sniff thought it was root beer. Has a slight chocolate aroma but does have a root beer thing going on. Taste is chocolate malts and a hop dry bitterness, and then there is the root beer thing again. Its not bad but not the best porter out there. From my own personal notes I had this one back in 2011 and thought pretty much the same of it back then too. Maybe I will try it again in another three or so years.

2.1 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours brown with tan head. Mild aroma of roast malt. Opens somewhat flat and simple, almost sweet. Some maltiness and mild hop flavor. Slightly toasty. Warming finish with lingering astringency and some bread and coffee notes. Thin mouthfeel. Overall, this beer is underwhelming, with a somewhat unpleasant finish.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
