A traditional London style beer, our Black Jack Porter highlights chocolate malt and Kent Goldings hops. Its slight initial sweetness quickly yields to the distinctive roastiness of the chocolate malt. The Kent Goldings hops perfectly balance the malt, making it very smooth, with a surprisingly clean finish.

UPDATED: AUG 23, 2013 This is an excellent porter. Slight sweetness to start with a good finish. Drinking it is slightly making up for the fact that the guys I’m with are switching between hockey and televised fishing an hour before the Super Bowl starts, but not nearly enough.

BBD 3/09/15. Very dark amber pour, but not opaque, with a dark ruby element. Below average head, lacing and retention. Very weak nose of roast and chocolate over a mineral note. Nice medium body with a touch of creamy texture. Below normal carbonation with minimal effervescence on the finish. The flavor profile is outstanding - intense, balanced and complex. It begins with bitter dark chocolate that flows into a blend of light roast and coffee. The middle is moderate hop bitterness over a light sweetness with nut and grain characteristics. The finish is somewhat clean with a slightly astringent note.

First taste was actually more disappointing than this current rating. Expected much more taste and character. Rather flat in those aspects all the way around

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Clear, reddy brown. Some yeasty lumps. Halo of off white head. Dark chocolate. Some raisin. Hint of smoke. Taste is sugary sweet. A little ashy dryness. Bit of booze on the palate. Finishes light bitter.

12oz bb11/2014. Clear copper-brown liquid pour, decent crema. Aroma of bayleaf, diluted caramel and light coffee roast translates into a herbaceous, metallic milk chocolate, liquorice root lemonade, toast, with very modest sweetness or lustre besides distracting green/wet hop notes. Thin palate, and not that rich a taste for the abv investment: a far cry from their sumptuous milk stout.

Bottle from Favourite Beers, Cheltenham. Dark red-brown beer. Aroma has chocolate but is also a touch metallic. The taste follows the aroma, but is again is metallic, but has nice toasted malts.

12 oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours black, with a moderate khaki head that fades quickly. Good lacing. Nose is dark malt and cocoa. Taste is dark malt with a hint of chocolate. Finish is short, with a touch of hop. Very well-balanced, well-made porter.

Bottle from The Beerhive. Dark brown body with a thin beige head. Light lacing. Aroma of treacle, rich chocolate cake and Coca-Cola. Sweet flavour of chocolate, soft plum and brown sugar. Thin body with a watery texture. Quite fizzy. Not bad, but a bit too thin and sweet.
