sneagrams3 (1464), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Sep 16, 2008 Tasted 9/11/08. 12oz bottle. Filtered with a dark amber hue. Ring of off-white head. Toasty aromas with hints of chocolate and cocoa. Slight grassy hop character. Medium to full bodied with a big malt character. Flavors of cocoa and cola. Vanilla and dark fruit. Raisins and caramel. Great flavors with a lingering finish. Low effervescence and rich and tasty! Damn fine porter!
mcsquint (57), , Missouri, USA Dec 1, 2008 Poured from 12 oz bottle into pint glass.
Aroma - Not much to go on. A faint milky chocolate aroma
Appearance - Daaaark brown with tinges of red. Big tan head. Nice lacing.
Flavor - Chocolate and roasted malt with notes of chocolate.
Palate - Heavy mouthfeel with nice carbonation. The balance of malt and hops make it finish very nicely.
Overall - I would have to add this to my list of favorite porters. Nothing objectionable about this at all. For an American version of a British ale, this one is spot-on!
Ober (526), Best, Netherlands Nov 29, 2008 A clear, almost black colored beer, with a huge, foamy beige head. The aroma of chocolate with coffee and dark malts. The taste of a little chocolate, with dark malts and some fruits like raisins. The aftertaste is a lttle sweet chocolate, malty a little bitter and dry. When the beer gets warmer, there are notes of smoked and it’s more fruity. patrick767 (1547), fort wayne, Indiana, USA Nov 27, 2008 bottle - Pours very dark brown with a tan head. It has a roast chocolate malt aroma. The flavor is a solid blend of dark roast malt and lightly bitter hops. It’s medium bodied and overall an enjoyable porter. iambeerviking (7), , Greater London, England does not count Nov 21, 2008 This tasted very Imperial in style to me and as I’m just moving into drinking the ports, stouts with the colder weather don’t really have much to compare it to at the moment douglas88 (942), Salt Lake City, Utah, USA Oct 30, 2008 Bottle thanks to Dakine. Pours a reddish brown color with a large light brown head. The aroma is very nice; sweet chocolates, rich malt and some citrusy hops. The taste is full of rich chocolate and toasted malts. A large hop presence also, it kind of blends in a nice way. Smooth and medium mouthfeel. Rich and dessert-like. Nice.
