Commercial Description:
Our latest offering attempts to address an old saying that has plagued mankind since its inception. Many times we've heard, "more is not always better". Invariably the person on the receiving end of such a statement scowls at the ramifications. Here at Left Hand we realize that life cannot be reduced to or understood in absolute terms. Our latest addition to our lineup attempts to take exception with such broad statements about the human condition. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. We hope you enjoy!

Bottle (purchased at Bodega Blue)... Murky, burnt orange ale with a large, frothy, off-white head. Excellent retention. Lots of black tea and toffee in the aroma and flavor. Full-bodied and lightly creamy with medium carbonation. Lightly sweet, lightly roasted, malty, iced tea finish. An Über Amber ale, I think.

Bottle sampled with Beerded one. Pours opague brown with a one inch thick light tan head. Aroma of hops, caramel, and fruit. The flavor is sweet upfront, caramel, fruit, and finishes mildly bitter. Great brew.

Pours a clear copper color with a small amber head. Aroma of caramel, malts, and a hint of oak. Flavor of malt, hops fruit and spices with a bitter hop finish. Overall a satisfying beer

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & GregClow -- courtesy of HogTownHarry. Pours a hazy dark orange-brown with an average size lasting foamy beige head. Aroma of caramel malt and resiny hops. Simple, good hoppy Ale flavour. Medium bodied. Nothing special but pretty good nonetheless.

Re-Rate: Lots of sediment. Big chunks, actually, with a lot of sludge on the cork and in the neck of the bottle. This is more along the lines of an Amber Ale than a Strong Ale. I guess it’s the 9% that warrants the description. Regardless, this beer wreaks of malts and caramel. A sweet banana flavor also in the aroma. Creamy with medium carbonation. Enjoyable, but not necessarily memorable and certainly overpriced. Give me Rogue Amber at half the price any day.

Bottle shared with HogTownHarry & blankboy - courtesy of HogTownHarry. Deep amber with a small off-white head. Big, sweet aroma - lots of caramel, some resiny hops creeping in. Good mouthfeel, and great flavour - caramel, brown sugar, tart fruit, citric hops. If it weren’t for the 9%, I could actually imagine this being a great session beer.

Bottle (750ml). Shared with blankboy and GregClow, my bottle - thanks to my SecretSanta 2006. Poured murky deep reddish-orange, huge lasting creamy/foamy beige head. Somewhat sweet grain and cereal aroma, almost wheaty, definite alcohol presence and soft hops - like a mild barleywine. Initially mild aroma, grain, juicy, then quite a bit of bitterness from alcohol and hops - good, but a little aggressive. Average body, astringent and quite alcoholic, medium linger, almost burnt bitter aftertaste on my tongue - pretty good though!!

Pours a lightly hazy deep copper, with half an inch or so of cream colored foam. Good head retention, excellant lacing. Caramel malt, green hop, and some alcohol in the nose. Flavor is similar to the aroma, though considerably stronger. IT starts out with the caramel malt and then blends into a light pine and citrus hop bitterness in the finish. Alcohol is present in the aftertaste from the first sip. Almost full body, quite smooth. Pleasant soft carbonation - make that very soft
