Commercial Description:
Our latest offering attempts to address an old saying that has plagued mankind since its inception. Many times we've heard, "more is not always better". Invariably the person on the receiving end of such a statement scowls at the ramifications. Here at Left Hand we realize that life cannot be reduced to or understood in absolute terms. Our latest addition to our lineup attempts to take exception with such broad statements about the human condition. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. We hope you enjoy!

A sweet beer, mostly caramel, nuts, bitter, malty and hoppy, spice, carrots, some noticeable alcohol. I enjoyed it- it tastes like something between a barleywine and an IPA, and theres a lot going on, but its smooth and everything fits together nicely. Plus it looks nice- reddish brown with a lasting offwhite head.

Some beers have divergent elements that just get muddied and despite having bits that are appealing, the whole doesn’t come together. This is a bit muddied as well, but for me at least it does come together if only as one might find things in a snadwhich where the crusty bread and strong mustard, leafy lettuce, carrots .. okay - maybe you get the picture, maybe you don’t. This is no exquisite representation of brewing, but it is a good one or one I like and I thank dewbrewer for saying something like that aloud and helping me remember it as I was able to sip some more and reflect.

750ml. Bottle. Deep hazy amber with a bubbly head. Metallic, caramel and nut aroma. The flavor has minerals, caramel with nuts and a lightly earthy pine that I found enjoyable. The body was full and round (somewhat "grainy" as noted previously) with a semi-dry finish. A good brew.

Pour is murky ruddy amber with a dense sticky tan head...smell is grapefruit and pine with hints of soap...taste is sweet throughout with some light citric hop notes, but more sweet than anything...I agree with Lumpy, the first thing I thought was I ws drinking the shittiest Arrogant Bastard ever, but it really is fairly tasty...a little thin bodied, but definately good...I was thinknig about picking another one up for the cellar, but for $11 a pop, I’m not sure yet...we’ll see what I think after I finish this one...

Bottle corked and caged. Big aggressive malt and hop nose that reminds me of Arrogant Bastard. Pretty hazy orange body with a one finger lasting foam head. Taste-malty, nutty, dusty, straw, bitter hops (perfect amount), not over the top sweetness, grapefruit, pear, light caramel, grainy. Bitterness lingers in the mouth like medicine, but it is not entirely off putting. A very well done ASA in the spirit of Arrogant Bastard. Only downfall is the nose.

Poured dark brown with a decent amount of head. Tastes of some spice and definitely tasted the malt. Had a bit of hop, but it was not real outrageous either.

(750ml bottle) Pours a lightly cloudy amber body with a moderate off-white head. Aroma of light fruit, bit vegetable, citrus, spruce, and spices (most notably cinnamon). Flavor of malt, hops, fruit, and spices with well hidden alcohol.

75cL bottle. Darkish brown color with wonderful, large head. Malty, resiny and piney aroma that is very inviting. The flavor rounds out halfway through the glass as it warms to the best temperature and the bitterness counteracts the maltiness. There is some caramel flavor along with some fruitiness. Simply delicious. It’s not too hot for 9% but it was more noticeable early on in the glass. While it is pretty bitter, there is a good amount of flavor hops to balance it.
