JorisPPattyn (5155), Antwerpen, Belgium Sep 9, 2008 Marks for Appearance are an average, as beer was sampled in weak artificial light after dark. Impressive cake-con-hops nose, readily detectabl from a meter. Orange marmalade on sweet, heavily baked cake. Much more subdued taste. USA hops still obvious, as well as a good dose of roasted cakelike malts. Researched balance. Quite sticky, well-bodied, (hop)oily. Good one, but certainly not really impressive. Thanks to John N. and Lorenzo. KimJohansen (6676), Copenhagen V, Denmark Sep 4, 2008 Clear amber with large beige head. Sweet with toasted malt, caramel and hoppy notes. Ends delicious bitter. ekstedt (2411), Göteborg, Sweden Sep 3, 2008 Bottle (75 cl) from Systembolaget. Beatiful chestnut colour with a yellow-beige fluffy head. Malty and nutty aroma with some spicy and piney hops. Very soft mouthfeel. Well balanced with a slight touch of alcohol. HonkeyBra (1266), Lemont, Illinois, USA Aug 30, 2008 Hazy amber pour, with a creamy head. Aroma is caramel, toffee and a bit of spice in the aroma. Flavor is dried fruit, brown sugar, oak, vanilla. Very sweet but balanced by spice. Creamy, medium mouthfeel, with a bit of hop in the finish. Nice, though I’m not sure why they call this "the big mo’ series". That’s a bit disconcerting. BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 29, 2008 Maple syrup brown with a glimpse of red when held to the light. Beautiful tight eggshell head, 1/2 inch thick. Caramel, toffee, and molasses...pour it on pancakes!!! Honey-like consistency. Brown sugar and dark fruit as well; sweet but delicious!!! mar (1740), Rowlett, Texas, USA Aug 28, 2008 2008 bottle. opaque amber pour with a 2 finger cream head. sugar, malts, hops with an overall candy scent. nice and easy on the palate with sweet malts taking over at first then balanced out by some nice citrusy hops. glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Aug 27, 2008 Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of caramel and milk chocolate, light herbs (like marjoram) and faint pine for the hops, light meat smell for the yeast, and butter and brown sugar in the background. Head is between creamy and frothy, slightly off-white, has good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky copper. Flavor starts moderately sweet, and finishes lightly swet and bitter. Palate is medium, creamy, and has a lively carbonation. After looking at the overall score I was surprized by the result of my rating. It did have more of a Dopple or Dunkel Bock characteristic to it than an American Strong. scrizzz (1250), kirkland, Washington, USA Aug 24, 2008 Relaxed brown sugar aroma, cherry chestnut brown and a sandy creamy head. Wow, that was unexpected! Heavy, almost stinging hops rush up front and the sugary base tries to keep up. Dried grass, apricot and cedar too. Splendid.
