Commercial Description:
Our latest offering attempts to address an old saying that has plagued mankind since its inception. Many times we've heard, "more is not always better". Invariably the person on the receiving end of such a statement scowls at the ramifications. Here at Left Hand we realize that life cannot be reduced to or understood in absolute terms. Our latest addition to our lineup attempts to take exception with such broad statements about the human condition. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. We hope you enjoy!

750 ml. Clear garnet with a two-finger head that quickly settles to a lasting foamy disc. Spots of soapy lace. Nasals of chocolate, caramel, orange, apple, grape and oak. Flavors of caramel, orange, oak, apple and chocolate, with some additional resin and smoky black pepper on the finish. Slightly larger than medium body is lightly carbonated, has a touch of warming and finishes oak-resiny dry.

2008 Bottle. Interesting, the screw bit on the cage is for lefties... Pours with a huge, frothy, off-white head covering a hazed brown body. Good lacing. Aroma is honey, ginger, dark fruits, tangy and cloying toffeem and some hops and sticky pineapple. Taste is malty and a bit tangy (imperial ESB?) and a touch metallic. Not that interesting or refreshing, but just ’okay’.

Bottle, 9.1%. Good coconut flavour. Quite a lot of alcohol aftertaste, which is good.

750 ml corked bottle. Dense stable beige head. Body is cloudy, dark reddish brown. Beautiful aroma of sweet ashy, caramellish malts. Whiffs of blackcurrant, anise and earthy hops. Flavor is rich malty, gently sweet, with some fruitiness (raisins and berries) in the background. Nicely balanced by fruity and earthy bittering hops. Thick mouthfeel. Full-bodied. Warm, malty and hop bitter finish. Well composed, very enjoyable.

(6/29/08) Bottle sample at RBESG08 grand tasting in Plzen. Muddy brown with a beige head. Aroma has some caramelly malt and some hops. Sweet flavor with malt and caramel, finishes with strong hoppy bitterness. Quite full-bodied.

Bottle. Jewel tone red, a nice hue with medium-sized tan head and lacing. Peaches, biscuits, strawberries, mango. Soft effervescence. Fruitier than expected, nice and bright with some cranberry. Initial fruitiness vanishes, caught up into a murky solvent wave. The fruitness never reaches full expression and nor do the hops. It sits heavy in the belly and finishes hot. Juicy and thick. It’s a slow sipper and a strange brew.

Bottle via trade with brokephibrok. Ruddy, fiery deep red-brown body, thin buff/tan head. Aroma of bitter piney hops, toast, heavy caramels, and alcohol. Bitter, resiny pine and grapefruit dominated the body, backed by caramely, toasty malt. Alcohol apparent. Average complexity for style.
