Commercial Description:
Our latest offering attempts to address an old saying that has plagued mankind since its inception. Many times we've heard, "more is not always better". Invariably the person on the receiving end of such a statement scowls at the ramifications. Here at Left Hand we realize that life cannot be reduced to or understood in absolute terms. Our latest addition to our lineup attempts to take exception with such broad statements about the human condition. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. We hope you enjoy!

Thanks to fatty for opening this up... Appears a dark, caramel toned amber with a light tan head that slowly fizzles into a bubbly collar. Spotty lacing is left around the glass. Smell is of toffee, brown sugar, cookie dough, cocoa, and caramel. Taste is of the same aromas but perhaps a bit more watered down than anticipated. Mouthfeel is medium bodied, slightly thin, doughy yeastiness up front, slightly hot at 9%, and mildly grainy.

This pours with a small head and has a nice orange hue. The aromas are of cherry apple some roasty malt and a good bit of alcohol. The flavor is very strong on caramel and alcohol with some cherry and a deep maltiness balanced by some muted hop spiciness. I’d like to try it again.

Bottle from Jimbowood. I will go on record and say I am not a fan of super malty beers. This was just that. Deep, rich copper color. Nose is caramel, molasses, and the slightest aroma of citrus hops. Flavor is super malty. Very light hop flavor. Way too rich and malty for my tastes.

I thought this was an Imperial/Double IPA which is why I bought it. It has a nice look. Dark brown nearly opaque. A nice looking beer, but nothing over the top. A nice fluffy head sits on top. Looks good, but tastes good is another story. Huge malty aroma. Not room for the hops to come out; if there are any that is!? I just don’t like American Strong Ale with huge malt aroma, and no friggin hops especially when they cost $12. This beer has a nice malt smell but it just overshadows everything else that I suspect in this beer. You get a decent hop taste. Along with an impressive caramel malt that is sort of roast-like. Wow, this has an interesting flavor. Very nice hop flavor with a hint of bitter aftertaste. I am liking that ash/wood aspect, but the hops are missing with this. I am sorry, but everything is great. The beer has a nice creamy texture, a nice malt aroma, and a nice malt taste, with a slight hint of bitter aftertaste, but the hops are just missing. Overall, pretty good exceeded my expectations, but there are better and cheaper American Strong Ales.

Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of caramel and milk chocolate, light herbs (like marjoram) and faint pine for the hops, light meat smell for the yeast, and butter and brown sugar in the background. Head is between creamy and frothy, slightly off-white, has good lacing and is mostly lasting. Color is murky copper. Flavor starts moderately sweet, and finishes lightly swet and bitter. Palate is medium, creamy, and has a lively carbonation. After looking at the overall score I was surprized by the result of my rating. It did have more of a Dopple or Dunkel Bock characteristic to it than an American Strong.

Nose of vanilla, flowers, and typical hops spice. The brew pours cloudy woody brown with yeasty beasties. The average off-white head is creamy, mostly lasting and leaves no lace. The brew has a strong bitter presence just the way I like it, with a fruity middle. The full body is dry and soft.
