Many times weíve heard, more is not always better. Chainsaw is a connoisseur version of our award-winning Sawtooth Ale, designed to befuddle silly generalizations about life. This Double ESB pours a brilliant deep ruby amber with a rocky near white head. The nose opens with bright spicy and herbal hops, with hints of dried fruit and port. The flavor starts with a chewy, bready malt and hints of brulee and kola nut that are suddenly swept away by thyme-like and hoppy bitterness. The strong herbal flavors then give way to a dry finish of licorice, gentian, and Italian bitters. We hope you enjoy!

Bottle poured a hazed amber/orange color with a small off white head. Aroma was heavy caramel malt with some slightly old citrus and pine hops. The flavor was bitter with an orange taste backed by strong malt and alcohol.

22 oz capped bottle pour, shared by Tyler. Pours a hazy reddish copper color with a sweet bready malt aroma. Decently high carb. Super fizzy. Donít know if Iíve ever had a double ESB before. First time for everything. Flavor is sweet as well. Caramel malt, nutty, bread, a little rye maybe. A little bit of chocolate as well. A ton of flavor going on here, and it makes for a very tasty brew. Another great one from these guys.

Bottle from Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. Nice red colour and a lacy off-white head. Aroma is grassy and citrus, some lemon zest, lime and tyme too, much less malty than the other ASAís Iíve had. Also, the taste is much less intense than othe ASAís, its spicy and mildly bitter. Strength is only evident in the body, nice oily medium/full body. Iím a bit conflicted, got to appreciate the skill in brewing a light drinkable 9% beer, but I do miss the potency from other ASAís like Stoneís Arrogant Bastard.

Bottle from Rehills, Newcastle. Dark copper in colour with rich chocolate, pine, burnt currants and liquorice flavours followed by a malty, cola and orange marmalade fruity finish. Superb!

Bottle. Left Handís Chainsaw Ale is their ramped up version of their award-winning English Special Bitter(ESB) Sawtooth Ale. Sawtooth is somewhat underappreciated in my opinion due to it being a less than trendy style but Chainsaw boosts the ABV from 5.3% to 9% while also supercharging the malts & hops so letís see how it tastes! A beautifully glowing amber-red pour. Served in a tulip it has a great herbal citrusy bouquet with soft cocoa while in a snifter it was much boozier. The flavor is citrus & pine up front then malty cocoa and a powdery nuttiness. Flavor-wise it is similar to an American style barleywine itís nice stuff with a bit of heat going down.

22. Pours a rich opaque dark brown with a dense and creamy pale tan head. Huge sweet nose, lots of sweet brown bread, molasses, cookie dough, and chocolate. Rich malt symphony. Creamy thick body with soft palate. Brown bread, chocolate, toffee, and molasses mid palate. Long sweet finish. Better with some funky, yeasty, or hoppy stuff thrown in.

On tap at Frisco Taphouse and Brewery in Columbia, MD. Hazy, dark chestnut with a khaki head and very good lacing. Aroma of toffee, nuts, pine and dark fruit. Taste of chocolate, pine, dark fruit, caramel, tangerine, nuts, toffee and currants. Medium body and medium carbonation. Does not remind me of an ESB, but there is plenty of malt flavor their coupled with far more bittering hops than a typical ESB (which are only bitter in comparison to an English mild.). Still, I'm enjoying this beer and would order it again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
