COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
That time of year (2009) when the day seems to fade away. Drifting further into the darkness with each passing day. Yes, we’re letting loose, from the noose (spiced beers), that’s kept us hanging about. FADE TO BLACK – our non-traditional, kick-you-in-the-ass ale that mirrors the available sunlight from October thru March. The name will stay the same (as well as the packaging) each year, but the style won’t.

Poured dark blackish with 2-finger tan head. Nose was roasty chocolate and patent malts. Tasted roasty malty, with choc and black patent, some molasses, dark fruit, and finishing hops.

On tap at hop devil. Not very impressed. Good color and aroma but uninteresting taste. Wouldn't call it an IPA ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

12oz bottle pours almost black...strong aroma of coffee. this is a medium bodied beer with minimal head and no lacing to speak of. the flavor is about the same dark roasted malts and lots of coffee...if you arent coffee fan then this beer is not for you...decent enough...just a slow sipper.

Almost nonexistent foam. Roasted malts in the smell, nice creamy palate, and a beautifully delayed spicyness well after swallowing. I think flavored beers are for those who don't like beer, but this one is a very smart exception. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. 12 oz. Pours solid black with no head. Aroma of coffee, chicory, roasted malts, chocolate and hints of brown sugar. Medium bodied, especially for a stout; feels more like a porter in the mouth and finish. Nice, slow, roasty finish. Very good stout

Originally reviewed: 1/9/10. 12 oz. bottle poured into a pint glass. Pours a jet black with a thin tan head on top. Retention is lacking, but it leaves some lace and webbing on the glass edge. Scents of oats, Cheerios, cocoa, and faint coffee. About what I expected. Great smooth and creamy body on this beer. Subtle carbonation on the tongue, but the creaminess just washes over the palate. Flavors are simple but very good. Chocolate flavors right off the bat, some mild espresso bitterness, and a dark fruity finish. This is a great beer. I downed this one easily enough and could have another. The alcohol presence, though higher, is not prominent. Recommend.

A good beer with a nice balance I prefer the milk stout but this is still a solid beer

Really different spicy smoky pepper flavor. It was a little overpowering for me. Really too much going on to be a regular drinker. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Very dark appearance with little head. Nutty and chocolaty aroma, but it is not very strong. The taste seems to be similar to the aroma. It isn’t bad, but I don’t find really anything special about it. It seems to be a bit watery and lacks any real aftertaste. I can find better options.
