2013 & 2010 Gold Medal Winner at the Great American Beer Festival in the Foreign Stout category.

That time of year when the day seems to fade away. Drifting further into the darkness with each passing day. Volume 1 - Foreign Stout - Pours black with licorice, espresso bean, molasses, and black cardamom notes that give way to a feeling of self loathing, burnt opportunities and smoked relationships.

12 fl oz bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a small white head. Aroma is dark roasted and breadish malty. Lingering roasted and dark malty flavoured. Light sweet and dark roasted note. Dark roasted and mild acidic note into the finish.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of caramel, malt, and flowers. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, nuts, and a bit of wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.

Bottle from ericandersnavy. Pours black with a small tan head. Aromas of sweet toasted malt and perhaps a touch of coffee. Full bodied with striking carbonation. Flavor is smooth burnt malt with a touch vanilla and some chocolate. Arguably coffee in the finish. It does end mildly astringent and a very little bitter. Pretty enjoyable.

A: The pour is just about black with a short lived mocha head that starts off at about one finger in height. S: Lots of roasted malts on the nose with a nice coffee aroma to it as well. Seemingly not as dry and acidic as a lot of export stouts can be. A slight char is present along with some bitter dark chocolate. T: The roast is the dominant flavor and there’s some slightly acidic coffee tones to go with it. Not as much in terms of chocolate but there is a good toffee character. A solid bitterness that lasts to the finish. M: The body is medium with a moderate level of carbonation. D: Not always my favorite style, but this was a pretty good example of it. Definitely higher in alcohol than I was initially anticipating, but it does not really show itself.

Tap at Blind Tiger. Pours a dark brown with a firm, tan head. Nose is roasted malts. Flavor is keen on the malts with some spice presence. Full-bodied and satisfying. More mild roastiness on the finish. Really good. More complex than a typical dry Irish stout without going over the top. One could certainly drink a few of these end over end.
