Dark brown pour, tan head. Lots of ham and bacon up front with some back notes of raisins and chocolate. Flavor is a creamy blend of smoke, chocolate, espresso and dark dried fruits. Yep, its good. Wayyyy better than volume 1.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Tasted from a 12 oz bottle purchased in Fort Collins, Colorado. Pours a deep brown/black appearance with a weak dark brown head. Dark burnt and particularly smoked malts in the head. Quite smoky beer. There’s the obvious burnt dark malts that hit you first and then the huge smoky flavor. The smoky flavor is there on the finish and the aftertaste. One of the best American smoked beers that comes to mind. Highly recommended.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a pitch black color with a thin offwhite head that sticks around the rim of the glass. Aroma of roasted malts, smoke, nutty notes and a faintly sweet finish. The taste is roasted malts, smoke, apples, nutty notes and a faint caramel finish along with some bitter hop notes. A little on the thin side, but its well balances and I’m liking it quite a bit.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled. Poured deeper brown with a short, but lovely, deep tan head. The aroma picked up sweeter campfire smoke and chocolatey malts, with undertones of vanilla and earth.. almost like a woodsy-smoked cake, and that does it for me. The flavor found well-roasted and near-burnt baker’s chocolate and black patent malts at the core.. tasty, but not a lot of standout malt character.. coffee ground-inspired bitterness surrounded.. somewhat warm on the finish, with lots of residual sugars and ashy smoke. Medium-bodied with moderate-plus carbonation on the palate.. a touch too scratchy, sugary, and salty.. overall a very good brew that I’d drink a lot of.
