3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Grape and Gourmet, VA Beach 12oz ($2): Pours black with a creamy beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roasted malts, and a bit of pepper. Taste is not as thick of spicy as would be expected, but the body is really nice and velvety. Taste is more traditional roasted malt and chocolate porter at the front and then it gets into the pepper aspect toward the finish. Some minor sweetness, which I guess is the fruit flavor they speak of, along with a hint of anise. Pretty good, but I was expecting quite a lot.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, dark brown colored pour. Small ring of off-white bubbles. No lacing. Caramel and vanilla aroma. Taste is a bitter chocolate with hints of vanilla. Not really that spicy, but you can tell there are peppers in there after awhile in the throat. Decent, but not a wow beer. A little on the thin bodied side of things.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Dark brown (much darker than their regular porter) with a steady tan head. Nose is cocoa, roasted malts, pepper-actually very nice! Flavor is pretty nice as well- you taste the peppers a bit in the finish but its very nicely integrated overall. Medium to heavy body with a light pepper, bittersweet chocolate, and mild chalky finish. A nice surprise.

3/VI/2012 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker) @ home (2012-595)
Clear dark brown fading to black beer, small beige head, unstable, dissipates, non adhesive. Aroma: lots of mocha, coffee, some caramel, liquorish, earthy, tobacco. MF: good carbon, medium body. Taste: sour start, mocha, chillies, chocolate, some vinegar. Aftertaste: very hot chillies, little bitter, coffee. Bit too peppery for me...
