bottle. dense dark brown body with a brown head. heavy roast, chocolate, char, coffee aromas with some hop resin and a doughy yeast note. medium-full body with rich and frothy carbonation, moderately bitter, very american hop bitterness and flavor: resin, orange, juicy fruit, etc. the herbal parts blend well with the frothy chocolate / coffee / earthy dark malts. a surprisingly drinkable robust porter-type beer that seems very held-together.

Pours a dark brown with a small tan head that fades to black itself pretty quickly, leaving a lot of lacing on the glass. Aroma of hops, citrus, and malts. Taste is roasted malts, citrus and hops. All very well balanced together. Very earthy and roasty all at once. Long bitter finish in which the hops and malts come through strong. Very fresh tasting, like it came off the tap at the brewery even though I bought this over a week ago and I’m nowhere near Colorado. Full body with a chewy texture and active carbonation. Tasty and full of flavor. Yet another winner in the Fade To Black series!

UPDATED: DEC 10, 2012 Odd brew... Cant place the aroma, its a bit roasty with some citrus. Flavor is almost like two beers in one; roasty porter like upfront and minty citrus aftertaste. Overall, complex but more like a black pale ale than a black ipa. Not bad... Thanks to BarZigKin for sharing!

Appearance: Pours a midnight brown with a loose frothy cap of cream colored suds.
Aroma: Grapefruit and pine resiny hops. Not much roast at all. It’s there, but very faint.
Taste: A nice hop profile of bitterness and citrus followed by a quick punch of spicy chocolate roast. Both the roast and hop bouquet fall off quick, leaving no lingering aftertaste.
Mouthfeel: Medium bodied, a little juicy with moderate carbonation.
Overall: A very nice hoppy ale. Left Hand didn’t call it a Black IPA, but of all the ones I’ve tried, this, in my mind, would be a black IPA. Lots of hops, mild roast.
