3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at 1839 Taphouse in Columbia. Pours a black color with off white head. Burnt, roasted, charred flavors. Not bad, but I’m not a huge fan.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
12 ounce bottle. Pours a big creamy tan head. Taste is very rich. Chocolate. Roast. Unlike other Black IPAs, it doesn’t give off that intense hoppy aroma or taste. More stout like with nice hop presence. Well balanced.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottled. Pours nearly pitch black with luscious brown head. Aroma is heavy on the hops, with strong notes of citrus. There is a mellow hint of toasted malt, as well. Flavor opens with bitter dark chocolate and espresso, picking up a little sweetness as it develops into a more balanced combination of hops and roasted malt. A touch of alcohol warmth throughout. Finish is on the dry side, with a lingering flavor of dark chocolate. Full bodied, mouthfeel is rich and smooth. A full-flavored beer, great for the season.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours rather thin lolling but pitch black with a dirty brown head. The nose is thick with odors of Christmas tree pine dried out and stuffed in a living room with chocolate and coffee blending in. Taste is bittersweet but the bitter takes the forefront for most of the ride. The mouthfeel is thin, crisp and clean. The finish is long. Another great f2b.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours almost pitch black with a medium sized brown head. Smells of pine and hints of coffee. Taste is very bitter, hints of spruce and earthy tones and a touch of coffee bitterness. Medium-bodied with a slick texture and lightly fizzy mouth-carbonation, Left Hand Fade to Black Volume 4: Rocky Mountain Black Ale finishes with a bitter dryness.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
a cool six pack. my first of this series from left hand. back as advertised with thin film head. Aroma of light chocolate and orange zest. Taste ramps up the citrus hop punch that mellows into a burnt toast malt and even bitterness. Solid black ipa all the way. Reminds me why I like this style.
