That time of year when the light fades away. Brewed for the darkness, Fade to Black speaks in volumes. Welcome to Volume 4, the Beer pours pitch black with an off white head. Citrus (bergamot) and roast dominates the nose. Slight sweet malt gets pushed back by initial citrusy hops followed by powerful Italian Amaro, gentian and hop bitterness. Finishing with a pleasant duality of dry roasted malts and hop bitterness.

12oz bottle from ABC on Betton. Black pour with a medium tan head and good retention. Aroma is smoke, leather, dark malts. Tastes are the same with a lot more mixed in: dark fruit, grapefruit, perfume, citrus peel, coffee. Definitely a worthy sipper, but wouldn’t need it more than once.

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2014 Serving: from bottle--purchased at Full Throttle Bottles. Aroma: moderately grainy-malty with chocolate overtones. Appearance: very small, light-brown, initial head that disappeared in seconds. Fair lacing. Dark-brown/black, cola-like body. Taste: lightly sweet, roasty initial flavor and finish with long duration. Palate: medium-to-full body with watery texture and lively carbonation. Overall: excellent. Interesting flavor to the last drop. Neither too sweet nor too bitter.

Citrusy bitterness that illuminates this black ale and temps the palate with a darkness that only lingers for a moment. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours very dark brown with a 3 finger creamy/foamy tan head. Aroma of mild citrus and darkly roasted malt. Near full bodied. Flavor is almost minty chocolate - must be the "powerful Italian" stuff. It is more dry than not, and it is bitter. It is a pleasant departure from the norm.
