1.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 4/20
Poors quite dark, light doesn’t shine through. A foamy brownish head appears and stays for a while before dissapating. Smells sweet and Spicey. The "pepper porter" version has the same texture and similar aspects like the strong malt, mild hops and bbq smoke flavor. This one adds pepper which just makes me feel like I have heartburn after every sip. Leaves a dry taste in my mouth like an astray. Didn’t enjoy this one bit

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
11/16/11. 12oz bottle. Black pour, dark brown with ruby under the light, with a big creamy tan head that sticks and laces plenty. Somewhat light aroma of chocolate and roasted malts with barely a touch of salty peppery-ness that blends into an already underwhelming aroma. Sweet milky flavor that shows a bit of roasted coffee and a touch of smoke, which I can only imagine is the peppers. I must say, there is a small lingering touch of tingling that must be the peppers, but they otherwise aren’t very perceptive. Eh.

2.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours pitch black and nearly opaque with faint mahogany edges and a very thin beige head that immediately disappears without a trace of lacing.
Roasted malt aroma with a touch of smoke along with a prominent pepper presence. Hints of roasted coffee and dark chocolate along with licorice/anise but the chili peppers really come through especially as it warms.
Medium bodied with a decent amount of roasted malt up front with coffee, toast and chocolate notes followed by some light fruit and licorice before the peppers come in on the finish. Tastes kind of sweet with peppery spice up front with subtle vinous notes as well along with the anise/licorice character. The chilies aren’t that noticeable until they come on strong in the finish. Plenty of lingering heat along with strong alcohol presence make this one a bit harsh. The pepper flavor isn’t that bad but the alcohol and weird licorice notes clash resulting in a bit of a mess. I’m glad I got to try this one but finishing 12oz is proving to be a chore.

On tap at flying saucer. Pours a dark brown almost black with a small beige head leaving spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is a smoke and pepper malt. Medium mouthfeel with a raisin malt and licorice with a nice peppery finish. A good Brew from Left hand.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Very dark, no head. Definite stout taste but with a bit of pepper to it. Not as smokey as I anticipated.

3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Pours a black color with an off white foam head. Aroma of roast, toffee, caramel, and vanilla. Sweet vanilla taste with some caramel notes and some spice on the back end. A spicey milk stout is the best way to describe it. The pepper picks up as the flavor fades from the tongue. Tasty.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours mahogany tinged black into a Sam glass. Mocha head with medium retention recedes leaving scant sheets to skim surface. Sweet milk chocolate and espresso aromas. Thin with upfront smoked pit fruit turning to chocolate before the lasting peppery resin finish.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
12 oz 6pack from Cranbury BuyRite. Poured a pitch black medium density body with a smaller to average sized slghtly foamy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, burnt toast, vanilla, honey and pepper. The body is a bit thinner then I was hoping for but still a solid medium mouthfeel with soft carbonation and a touch of heat on the exhale. Flavor of dark toast, sweet pepper skins, vanilla extract, slight chocolate, cola and dark tea bags. Good stuff but the body could be pumped up a tiny bit.

3.6 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours black with a thin head. Taste is medium bodied with a nice smooth body. Taste is just a little peppery, with a good malt porter taste. The finish is more peppery. Interesting, better than I had imagined.
