3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 matta (1140) - Tampa, Florida, USA - NOV 29, 2003
Had a bomber of this today, poured a crisp copper / amber colored body, respectable frothy white head. The ginger spiciness was apparent in both the aroma and flavor. A malty, somewhat soapy flavor, but expected from the use of ginger, a small bit spicy, peppery, tangy lemony palate. An interesting and adequate beer for sure.
2.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20 argo0 (9265) - Washington DC, USA - NOV 2, 2003
Slightly hazy light amber with medium off-white head. Aroma and taste are medium sweet, ginger, orange, biscuit. Finish is mild earthy, lemon. Light watery body.
3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jgb9348 (3497) - Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia, USA - AUG 22, 2003
Slightly hazy orange tinted golden colour with a 2 centimetre thick white head. Sweet smells of ginger, caster sugar a decent amount of hops and a bit of malt. Medium-Bodied; Very little carbonation. Definate ginger taste, albeit subtle. A shade of spicyness in tandem with the malt and a touch of hops are all tasted. Aftertaste reminiscent of a bit of ginger and a tad of hops. Overall, interesting and worth trying! Definately try it with an asian meal as the ginger should go pretty well! I purchased this twenty-two ounce bottle at Whole Foods in Vienna, Virginia.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 whaleman (2176) - North Wales, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 11, 2003
This beer works as an excellent partner with spicy Thai food. The ginger and alcohol both enhance the spiciness and refresh your palate. Ginger aromas and flavor are well-reserved in this beer and not overpowering. The flavor builds rather nicely but some distinct maltiness definitely shines through. I kept expecting this to taste like a ginger beer but it doesn't have that type of sting. I'm not sure that I would be too fond of 22 oz. of this beer unaccompanied. Strictly a food beer.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Frank (2064) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 25, 2003
Orange golden with a thin white head. Light aroma has just a hint of ginger on top of a well balanced mix of malt and slightly citric hops. Light bodied and very smooth, maybe a bit creamy if a light bodied beer can be creamy. Definite pine bitterness in the finish. The ginger is not very assertive so this ends up tasting mostly like a mild American pale.
3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 10/20 kujo9 (1085) - North Ridgeville, Ohio, USA - JUN 17, 2003
Light amberish color with white quickly diminishing head. Ginger and malt aromas in pretty good balance. Slightly fruity but nothing overwhelming. Ginger flavor is definitely more apparent in the flavor as is the light bitterness and hop flavor that dominates what little maltiness there is. There seems to be a definite sweetness at the first impression, but it finishes dry and rather uninteresting. Very little of the fruitiness in flavor that there was in the aroma. It is light bodied with moderate carbonation and a dry m/f. Not what I'd call a terribly exciting beer by any stretch of the imagination, but definitely different.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Drew (2411) - Kent, Ohio, USA - MAY 26, 2003
I was expecting a sweet ginger ale taste, but, happily, this is more about real ginger than that fake Canada Dry fructose syrup stuff. Deep gold, topped with a generous head, light lacing. Sweet and bready malts, little ginger bite at first, most of the ginger seems to come in at the end - if you've ever chewed on fresh ginger, you know the finish of this beer - an all over warmth in your mouth. I'll have to try this one again.
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TAR (2236) - Lafayette, Colorado, USA - MAY 20, 2003
Luminous golden. Fat, spongy dusty white foam. Surprisingly mild aroma of toasted malt, vague earthiness, lemon, assorted herbal notes, phenol, pine needle, and zingy ginger undertones. Prickly carbonation. Watery edge. Lightly sharp ginger flavors, followed by artificial sweetener, mint, cilantro, prominent hop leaf shades, tropical fruit, spruce tip, and a hint of wood. Trace of toastiness, herbs, and lemon zest arriving toward the crisply dry finish. This does a nice job of achieving what it set out to do, which is to be more straightforward than complex, and a refreshing, lightly fragrant, easy-going summer quaffer. Furthermore, achieving these flavors in such a mild beer is a work of art. I'd love to have this paired with sushi.
2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20 Suttree (3927) - Knoxville, Tennessee, USA - APR 28, 2003
Yeah, if you say so. Gold with white head. Citrus flavor, with slight metallic taste as well. Nice dry finish. I may have to try again, I really couldn't descern anything special.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 boto (1581) - Granby, Connecticut, USA - APR 28, 2003
Draught version. This was quite the interesting combination. Nose of ginger and apricot. Ginger taste which gives way to an apricot aftertaste. Very refreshing!
