beermatrix (1497), Twin Cities, Minnesota, USA Dec 20, 2007 The Goose pours out a murked greyish yellow and sits and stirs in the glass much like muddied water. Medium capping of lightish yellowed/off-white foam sits briefly before settling to a mere whisp of a skim and a few bubbles at the edges. Minimal lacing in some spots and small strings.
Aroma is all about the smoked meats baby. This goose is cooked, or smoked as it were. Big waft of smoked salmon creeps out even as its poured. Its big, bold, and loud as a goose. Hard to get much else, but its complexity of smoked stuff and strength is quite crazy.
Taste is more of the same, lots of smokey flavors over what once was a lighter doppelbock of sorts. Again, mostly smoked flavors of meats, wood, and leather make the palate soak and steam with raw might. Some sweetness backs it up, but the smoke is all over the place and quite supreme.
Feel is visciously full and robust with long smokey length that reaches beyond the sky in which it flies.
This is a great smoked beer, it has tons of smoke, perhaps too much for some; but I liked it. Just couldn’t drink it as easily as I’d like. This smoked Goose has some bite to its honk! This would be a great dinner beer with cheese apps and/or heavy crackers.
luckygirl (1212), Longmont, Colorado, USA Jan 15, 2006 From a bottle. Beer pours a murky, dark amber-brown color with a small, creamy, light-brown, mostly diminishing head. The aroma is stellar! Heavily and luxuriously malty with thick notes of roasted grain and caramel and moderate notes of coffee and chocolate; smooth, yet moderate hoppy notes of pine act as a foil against the sweet, fat malt. The flavor is smooth and easy-to-drink. It begins moderately sweet and heavily bitter and fades into a long, lightly bitter finish. The body is full, the texture is creamy, the carbonation is lively and the alcohol feel is moderate. FlagstoneHill (202), Erie, Colorado, USA Dec 22, 2005 Draft at the brewery on opening day. Lt chocolatey aroma......Brown with red hints, not much head.....Sweet and malty with long finish.....velvety smooth.....Excellent doppelbock. Served a bit on the cool side at the tasting room - will need to get some bottles to sample warmer
tromboneman (17), USA Aug 26, 2006 A wonderful dopplebock brewed here by the boys and girls at left hand. This beer has made me want to try their others such as the juju ginger and cow stout. I would have to say though out of the three the dobblebock was the best style. More on this later... urbnhautebourg (934), Annapolis, Maryland, USA Sep 28, 2003 Draft. Meaty rich malty brilliance. Tons of flavor--a study in malt. Excellent.
