Here’s a black ale to brighten your day. Wake Up Dead lurks in our cellars for over 4 months before being unleashed. Hints of raisins, black licorice, coffee and dark chocolate are followed by earthy, herbal hop notes. Any apprehensions about the rest of your day are quickly forgotten, for whatever the mind expects, it finds. Sometimes you’re not in the mood for what everyone else is having.

Great caramel notes. Very complex, but yet clean in the aftertaste. Served a bit too chilled.

650 ml bottle. Pours a very nice black with a slight red hue around the outermost edges. Has a two inch dark tan head that lasts. Taste is of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, caramel, hops, citrus and warming alcohol. Similar aroma. Has a full and creamy body. The finish is a touch bitter and has some warming alcohol in the end. Drinkable and rather enjoyable.

A 22oz bottle aged 18 months in my beer cellar and poured into a Hamm’s goblet glass. Appearance: Black and poured with a short deep brown head. Head is slightly retained with a dark brown ring and about half inch of loose lacing. Smell: The nose is dark roasted coffee with a hint of dried fruit, very pleasant and welcoming. Taste: Rich roasted malt and coffee up front with lingering flavors of black licorice and dark chocolate. There is also a spicy finish that I accredit to the malt as the hops have long faded. Mouth feel: It has a full body and light carbonation, with a nice finish of alcohol warmth and dark chocolate flavor. The use of oatmeal gives a smooth mouth feel that has you anticipating your next sip. Overall: This is a wonderful version of an American Imperial Stout. Left Hand Brewing rarely disappoints. The hops have faded with age, but the combination of malts and other grains have married nicely to make this a wonderful beverage. I will definitely purchase again. Next time I will not age so long to make sure I include hop flavors.

Draft. Aroma is dark fruit and some dark malt. Appearance is a lighter black with some tan lacing. Taste starts dark fruit and malt intermingled then takes a turn towards the dark fruit flavor. Hides the booze very well. Palate is good. Overall, a great stout. Really looking forward to trying the barrel aged version. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The color of this beer is black with a small off-white head that fades quickly, and the aroma reminds your nose of raisins and dark chocolate. The taste is quite umami, mildly sweet, and a touch bitter, which isn’t too exciting but nothing to complain about either; additionally, the palate combines a boozy finish (which is normally off-putting, but, with this beer, is quite a nice balance with the rest of the flavors and feels) full body, slick texture, and a soft carbonation.
