keith0718 (151), Olathe, Kansas, USA Mar 15, 2008 I may have found my new favorite. The high-water mark for me is Stone Imperial Russian Stout--a beer I an unable to procure locally. I stumbled across this in an unlikely place and it is very comparable to that great beer by Stone. turbo (1248), Arizona, USA Nov 9, 2004 (HOT) Poured black baby!! with a thick chocolate head.
Warmed in the microwave.
Flavor is great!! rich roast and malt and alcohol is well hidden.
What can I say ?? this is a great stout and I will buy again. agillespie81 (100), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 29, 2008 Opaque in color......creamy head. Smooth aroma with a hint of chocolate. Sweet front, and a very smooth mouthfeel......hard to believe it’s over 10% ABV! A mild malt finish with a slightly chocolate aftertaste. JMerritt (1105), Macomb, Illinois, USA Nov 5, 2003 Dark brown bordering on black. I initially thought that it wasn't going to have a head, but then this thick, creamy, light brown head slowly formed as the bubbles rose from the bottom of the glass to the top, as if released by a widget. Quite impressive! Lacing is thin but coats the glass in a solid sheet. Hop aroma is immediately noticeable, then disappears as roasted malt and coffee notes spring up from underneath. Flavor has a definite fruit/grape quality to it, rounded out by sweet coffee. Finish is sweet, but pops with a little hop bite at the tail end. Lasting aftertaste of roasted malt. Super smooth on the palate. Alcohol is well hidden. This stuff drinks like a meal, and is quite excellent. HighGravity (877), Baltimore, Maryland, USA Jul 27, 2002 A little light on the nose, but the palate makes up for the lackluster aroma. A thin tan head leaves lace. Lots of vanilla, rum, and whiskey flavors. The 10% abv is hidden well. This baby also delivers a nice does of hops. Good coffee and chocolate flavors. A must try. IMO it could be hopped a little more.
