RedXIII (101), Powell, Ohio, USA Jul 17, 2007 Regardless of the season, it’s always a good time for an Imperial Stout and this is a good one! Color was not as dark as I’ve seen poured with a nice opaque brown, but the aroma is the true introduction. A sudden rush of roast, chocolates, nuts and raisins is a nice welcome. No way this is 10.4% abv. Taste is a bitter sweet version of the aroma with a soft, warming finish. One of my new favorites.
Acknud (622), Morganfield, Kentucky, USA Nov 18, 2008 Very disappointing to me. Way too thin for a good impy. This affected the color of the pour and made in a dark brown. Very chocolaty with little else to offer. Maybe a hint of roasted malt is present. The hops never really made a good appearance. mdm46410 (606), Griffith, Indiana, USA Oct 27, 2008 Poured from a 22oz bottle and served in a snifter. This stout poured an intense dark brown with a thick head of creamy foam that slowly faded away. A heavy coat of solid lacing was left around the glass. The aroma included smoothly roasted malts, chocolate, cookie, and some faint citric hops. The flavor was unfavorably dominated by chocoalte syrup. Definately on the sweet side. Pretty one-dimensional. The mouthfeel was full-bodied and sticky. Lightly carbonated. This brew could definately use some more roast or bittering hops to add some depth and balance. CelticBrew (535), The Crystal Coast, North Carolina, USA Oct 27, 2008 Poured from bomber, extremely dark ruby red/black cherry currant color, aroma of alcohol chocolates, hops, malts, and roasted malts. Flavour of much of the same, alcohol burn come through to slap one in the nads. Perhaps they added some nail cleaner to this in the end. Disappointment from Left Hand. Eladerman (52), Newburgh, Indiana, USA Oct 27, 2008 This is a Very Good RIP. It has just the right sweetness with smooth chocolatey/express like flavors. It is a fairly BIG beer at 10% ABV. The Left Hand oak aged ( wine barrels) RIP is slightly better, but this stuff will do! If you see this beer buy it- you won’t be sorry. I just picked up 10 750 ml ( wine)bottles at $6.30 per bottle- a downright steal at that price! aplusbreaks (99), , Colorado, USA Oct 25, 2008 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown/black. with no head or lacing to speak of. Aromas of some roasted malts, coffe, vanilla and some alcohol heat. Flavors are about the same as the aromas, with the addition of toffee and some ...honey? Very similar to left hands milk stout, just not as sweet and more heat.
