3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Deep black beer with a thin white head. Fast fading to leave a dusting of lace. The nose is fairly boozy with a bit of soft cocoa and a hint of lightly salty maltiness. The flavour is lightly dry with a lingering cocoaish/molasses sweetness. The booziness is fairly distracting, but there is a nice leanness to the cocoa notes. It’s not really bad, but it’s not a great example of the style. Light roast and a touch of black licorice. As it warms up the beer improves a bit with the sweetness of the body helping to combat the peppery booziness a bit. Lingering faint chocolate and ethanol.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Delicious & complex! Big bold black pour w/ a big tan head that leaves some lacing. The aroma is a nice blend between sweetness & coffee bitterness. The palate is light & creamy but just thick enough to provide the flavor explosion & finishes bitter on the tongue. Very rich & deep. This is an awesome beer!

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
12 oz. bottle. Appearance: very dark to black pour with small tan head, great lacing. Aroma: chocolate, roast, coffee, nut, floral, licorice. Palate: full body, creamy texture, soft carbonation, bitter and sweet finish with a little bit of alcohol. Taste: sweet, all the way through with a bit of bitterness coming through at the end like dark chocolate. Overall, very happily surprised by this beer. Very rich and full body, with a lot of different things going on. I really enjoyed this beer and plan on drinking it again soon!

3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Botella de 65 cl en el Lupulo. 17-12-13.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A very drinkable, solid imp stout. ABV is well hidden. Taste is of dark chocolate, coffee, with a little sweetness of raisins thrown in. Plesantly surprised by this one. Will age a couple of bombers to see how the flavors change.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Appearance: near black, with a decently thick, creamy tan head for the abv. Aroma: chocolate, some black coffee, herbal/earthy hops, licorice, leather, and raisins. Taste: bittersweet chocolate dominates, with undercurrents of milk chocolate, coffee, cream, licorice, soy sauce, and a hint of vanilla. Finish: slightly sweet and a tad tangy, with a good dose of herbal/earthy hops as hinted at in the nose. Notes: This reminded me of nothing so much as an amped up version of Schlafly’s Dry Irish Stout, which is one of my favorite stouts. But it wasn’t quite as good as that. It was pretty darn good, though, and the alcohol was decently hidden.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from the bottle into a snifter glass.
A: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, roasted coffee, light molasses, and licorice notes. Big chocolate malts are the feature here.
A: Pours deep brown with a tiny ring of bubbles surrounding the brim of the glass.
T: Complex, but well balanced. Strong flavors of roasted malts and chocolate but nothing overpowering. Slightly more alcoholic than the nose lets on.
P: Medium body and low carbonation, with a super smooth and creamy body. Maybe a little thin for the style and flavor.
O: This is a solid beer, but nothing amazing. Fairly balanced flavors with decent complexity and quite smooth to sip on.
