4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 bhensonb (8997) - Woodland, California, USA - OCT 15, 2010
Bomber from Ace in Boulder, CO. Pours clear amber/copper with a foamy off-white head. Aroma is roast caramel. Hop? Med body with frothy carbonation. Flavor is pale malt and a heck of a lot of hop. Grassy/herby hop. Noble hop. Not pure Saaz. But very nice. It starts to finish sweet and then the hop goes bump. Incredibly delicious.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 hopscotch (8217) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - NOV 7, 2010
Bottle… Clear amber lager with a mid-sized, fluffy, white head. Excellent retention. The aroma reeks of way too many spicy, musky, resiny and peppery German hops. There’s also mild biscuit and medium-roast malt thrown into the aromatic mix, but overall there’s just way too much lupulin here from a hop growing region that I don’t particularly care for. Medium to full-bodied with kicked-back carbonation. The flavor is all about the hops. As previously mentioned, they aren’t my favorite varietals, but they certainly are intense. Even at room temperature, the sweetness is very low and my palate is bombarded by sharp, tannic, walnut skin bitterness. Finishes astringent, bitter and dry.
