This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Poured black with a thin tan head. Aroma is chocolatey with lacto and nuts. Taste is very creamy with lots of roasted malt flavors. Good nutty flavors with a bit of earth. Milky cream through the mouthfeel. Finish is slightly sweet with more chocolate. Pretty much a perfect milk stout!

Bottle from Beer Gonzo, Coventry. Looks great in the glass when poured ’hard’ as the bottle says. Aroma of coffee, chocolate slightly smoky too. Really smooth, chocolate and coffee with a touch of sweetness. Very very good stuff this.

Bottle. Poured into a frosty mug. Dark almost black with a small, thick, tan head. Nutty aroma with a nice smoky taste. Not quite Breakfast Stout but still quite tasty. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Dark chocolate milk, roasty black coffee, chocolate syrup, smoky fire, still that crayon and cocoa nibs. (Taste - 4.20) Medium body. Creamy-to-sticky texture. Average carbonation. Long smooth finish. (Feel - 4.14) A nice milk stout, one of the best I’ve ever had. I have a feeling I slightly overrated it though. (Overall - 4.20) 4.20 94 A-

Bottle. Archer Road Beer Stop, Sheffield. The Nitro version. Poured "cold and hard", as per instruction. Clear, dark chestnut brown. Minimal tan head. Nutty, coffee bean, milk chocolate aroma. Taste is milky sweet. Light cocoa dry. Palate is sickly soft, and a bit thin. Finish is sweet, with a hint of liquorice right at the close.

classic (5.2%)looked like a porter/stout hybrid...not quite as dark as i expected. light tan head. smooth creamy body, a touch of the thin side, but the smoothness almost makes up for it. flavor and aroma not terribly complex, but good. malted milk chocolate and roasted malt...more chocolate in the flavor than the aroma. slightly bittersweet finish. overall, a touch lighter than i’d hoped, but a solid brew. (3.6) nitro 6% "A slightly bigger abv and smoother version of their milk stout. I detected more chocolate as well, and a little less of the lactic quality. Very very enjoyable brew.... (4.0)
