COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

UPDATED: SEP 13, 2007 This beer really surprised me. The first thing you notice after pouring the dark brown [almost black] goodness into a quality pint glass is the sweet smell of chocolate. That smell lingers as you get your first taste - defined by sweet chocolate and milk flavors. After letting it sit on your tongue for a second, the coffee flavors start to take over and remain in the after taste. If you like a super smooth stout and gravitate towards sweeter beers, this is well worth a shot. I will be picking up quite a bit more to drink as a "dessert beer." Very important: SERVE COLD!

Blind tasting. Black-brown color with thick head - although it faded quickly. Roasted coffee and chocolate aroma. Chocolate milk aftertaste, also in the aroma a bit. Nice creamy smoothness. Hint of bitterness. Creamy, roasted, delightful flavor and aroma. Would like to have again.

pours black with a huge three finger fluffy brown head. aroma is chocolate and a little milk sugar almost smells like chocolate milk. has a medium to full body with good lacing and just enough carbonation for a stout. flavor is the same as aroma with a little coffee. is a little sticky on the lips and has a creamy mouthfeel. it is not to bad a little thin but not bad. as it warms some coffee aroma appears along with a little more in the flavor making it more of a mocha type coffee flavor and aroma than just chocolate milk.

Nice black pour with tan head of a medium thickness. Smell is of rich, creaminess, and roastiness with big chocolate scents. Very creamy, like rich roasty chocolate milk. Very smooth, and flavorful. Nice light carbonation, good mouthfeel, and great stout overall. Would have again.

Tap. Heavy malt aromas of toasted and dark coffee, a light hop note of herbs, and dough and earth for the yeast, with cardboard and fruit punch in the background. Head is creamy light brown, with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color appears to be jet black for lack of any good lighting. Flavor starts heavily sweet and moderately acidic and finishes moderately acidic and lightly bitter. Palate is medium to full, between creamy and syrupy with light carbonation. A nice sweet stout with some good backbone in the taste.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into an English pint glass. This stout poured a deep black color with a one-finger thick, dark tan head that quickly faded away. Some light lacing was left around the glass. The aroma of the brew was made up of milk chocolate, coffee, and some light hops. The flavor consisted mainly of creamy milk chocolate, some light coffee notes, and also just a touch of light piney bitterness at the finish. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied and creamy with light carbonation. A very nice sweet stout.
