COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Aroma is roasted notes, coffee, earth notes, and a hint of chocolate. Flavor is a smooth milky chocolate with some bitter roasted notes in the finish. Other than the bitter roasted notes the beer is sweet in the delivery of its other flavors. Very solid malt body.

12 oz bottle. Probably one of my favorite easily obtainable Stouts. Pours a deep dark brown/light black with some red hues around the edges with an average size very light tan head. Aroma mainly of chocolate milk but hidden underneath are some coffee and slight tar notes. Palate is a little thin and has a little to much carbonation but I still like this stuff. Flavor shines when it’s cold and doesn’t quite have that "wow" taste this one warm that I’m used to. Flavor is still very nice of mild chocolate and slight coffee. If this was fall I could easily throw a six pack back while sitting outside listening to music.

UPDATED: MAR 26, 2008 12 oz bottle. Pours dark brown with a dark red hue, creamy milk chocolate head. Roasted malt and chocolate aroma. Creamy mouthfeel. Soft malty flavoured containing roasted malt and chocolate malt. Nice mellow finish with no hops. Very enjoyable.7-4-7-4-15=3.7

From bottle, 5A Papsoes New Zealand vs US blind tasting. Pours amber/brown with a lacing tan white head. Smooth chocolate malt aroma. Mild coffee and chocolate malt flavour. Solid acidic note. Light fruity note. Ends with a lingering coffee and roasted malt flavour but still with a smooth chocolate note.7-4-7-4-15=3.7

draft into a pint glass from Redbone’s in Somerville... The aroma was chocolate, coffee, and alcohol. The first sip was smoky and smooth. It was so smooth that it led to a couple of involuntary gulps... yummers. The mouth feel was heavy, but the light carbonation and diverse flavors made it extremely drinkable. This was my first beer at redbone’s and my first left hand offering. This was a nice beer experience.

UPDATED: JUN 17, 2007 Black appearance, thick lasting brown head. Malts and chocolate in aroma. Sweet flavour, some sourness even, quite watery. Tastes like a sweet Guinness. Quite ok, as long as you don’t drink more than a few in a row, as it might get boring.

Really had high hopes for this, especially after the aroma hinted at a thicker, more milky version of Sam Smith’s Oatmeal Stout. Unfortunately, the flavor was more Guinness Draught with added water. Hints of chocolate and milk, but the water just washed them away quickly. The texture is too thin, as is the carbonation. Overall, a disappointment.

pours dark brown with a creamy tan head with slight carbonation. scents of cream, chocolate, and coffee. medium thickness, and a nice smooth feel. coffee and baker’s chocolate with a touch of cream for smoothness define the flavor. a nice little stout all round.
