COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Pours a deep brown, tan head. Bigger aroma, roasty yet fairly sweet. Flavor offered some roasted coffee bitterness along with some mild sweetness, a bit caramelly. A little lighter bodied but smooth. Enjoyable.

Dark opaque brown with a somewhat thin, light brown head. Chocolatey, creamy coffee taste, bitter finish. Little thin on mouth feel but good.

Bottle sample. Whenever I sample a new sweet/milk stout it’s difficult not to draw a comparison with one of my all-time favorites which is Mackeson’s. This offering really doesn’t come close. Pours opaque black with a quick disappearing tan head. Initial nose is of roasted malts and dark chocolate. Appropriately sweet taste, but a bit thin on the mouthfeel. Finished quickly with a wisp of bittersweet chocolate and dark roasted coffee beans. Not a bad sweet stout by any means, but somewhat undistinguished.

Pours a dark colaesque brwon color. Without the soda-like bubbles. Fluffy off-white head that disappeared, almost completely, quick. A bit creamy nose with some chocolate. I do like this stout. Sweet chocolate milky taste with some roasted malts in there and a very small hop bitterness in the finish. Very little carbination.

Black w/ soda-like brown head (it sizzled but dissipated very quickly). Sweet, roasty chocolate aroma. Soft, creamy, lightly carbonated feel. Roasty, slightly milky, chocolate flavour w/ a hint of nuts & an underlying mineral water quality. Finish is very wet & sweet.

Ruby brown in color with a tiny head that diminishes to nothing. Roasty, milk chocolate aroma. Roasted barley flavor with hints of cocoa and a milky sweet finish, not much bitterness. Quite drinkable.

Bottle - Pours a dark brown with medium tan head. Aroma was sweet with chocolate. Flavor and finish was sweet chocolate with a roasted coffee note. Finish was light.

Pours a mostly opaque dark brown with a small head that is quickly dissipating. Aroma is mild--some chocolate noted, but nothing special. Thin, sweet stout with lots of chocolate. Mild bitter ending. Nothing special at all.

Pours a dark brown, almost black, color with a very small head with very little lacing. Aroma is like cocco-pebbles in warm milk. Flavor is chocolate and a roasted bitterness. Some light sweetness on the back end of the taste. Finish is pleasantly crisp but notebly round. Not bad.
