COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Black with almost no head. I could smell coffee before I poured the beer. Some chocolate in the aroma as well as toast. Flavor is coffee and chocolate, sweet, then a mildly bitter aftertaste. Excellent palate. Very smooth, but also a substantial beer. I could drink a lot of this.

The head was minimal and tan in color. The aroma was of coffee. The malt taste was mixed with coffee. This was my first Left Hand Brewing beer. The Milk Stout was good but not my best stout.

Pretty solid stout that lives up to its name. Nothing really stands out other than that it is smooth. Worth trying, but if Guinness is available just drink that...

Dark brown, shining red ’round the edges,highly carbonated, prodigious cocoa head, which slims down right-quick. Bittersweet in the nose, but minor, mostly smooth, sweetness and cream. Taste: Smoothness reigns here, very slick, easy-going, but just enough taste to redeem it. but there’s a definite lack of character, though. That could be what they’re going for, a readily palatable stout that would please the masses. That’s good for something, but not really for me. Yeah, I really don’t feel like knocking it, but true stout aficianados won’t miss anything if they pass this by.

Thin slick body. tasted like chocolate milk with coffee and alcohol in it. normally that would be a good thing, but for some reason this bottle had a oily kind of flavor.

Dark brown pour, with a very short lived head. Nose is strong in malt and a light amount of coffee and cream. The taste is a sweet stout, refreshing and rich. A nice offering.

Pours a deep ruby color. A little light for a stout. Wonderful aroma. Roasted coffee and alot of creamy chocolate. Rich smooth flavor. Creamy and sweet with alot of roasted coffee bitterness. Great balance of sweet and bitter. Excellent stout.

This my friend is a good sweet stout! This beer seemed to have a good balace of nice coffee and hop aroma with a nice coffee and sweet flavor. The hop flavor is just right to balance out the bitter and sweet.

Bottle. Dark brown with a thin tan head. Nose: coffee, some chocolate. Taste: milky coffee, chocolate , Moxie soda and a hint of vanilla.

Pours a short tan-colored head with strong lacing. Aroma is peaty, quite porter-like. Also with the flavor, it could use a touch more hops -- as it stands, it’s quite peaty which is more the characteristic of a porter. In any case, the milk sugar is indeed a unique element and perhaps contributes to the bold mouthfeel. The experience is sort of like a cardboard container of flavored milk like they sell in Thailand.
