COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This English style of beer, also known as Sweet Stout or Cream Stout, first appeared in London in the late 1800’s. The early brewers touted the health benefits of the milk sugar in this beer which today relates mainly to the increased amount of calories(no real health benefits…sorry). The milk sugar adds a well rounded sweetness to this dark beer and makes it an outstanding, year ‘round stout.

Awesome beer. ffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff />Earlier Rating: 5/10/2005 Total Score: 3.7
Deep brown color that appears black in the glass until closer inspection. Aroma is fairly rich, full of roasted chicory, cocoa, sugar covered raisins along with a slight hint of hops. Flavor is full of milk sugar and malt and its attributes, providing a creamy, sweetened blend of enjoyable flavors, such as cocoa, coffee and raisins. Somewhat overly bitter on the finish, but still an impressive brew.

Nitro tap at Incline Public House on March 4, 2013. Opaque brown color, large tan head that slowly receded with fine lacing, moderate sweet/roasted malt aroma. creamy mostly sweet flavor but with some roasted malt character, long pleasing aftertaste. Sweetness is front and center without being cloying. I’m not much into nitro taps but it really worked with this beer.

Bottle from Total Wine. Pours a thin black that is opaque. with small tan head. Aroma is burnt malts, milk chocolate, sweet leche, and hint of coffee. The taste is similar with burnt malts and milk chocolate. Some vanilla. Thin body for the style, but good flavor. Overall not bad.

On tap, small sample, on nitro. Typical color, dense nitro head, light, nice roasted, coffee cocoa aroma. Taste is mild roasted notes, slightly burnt, hint of coffee and chocolate. Smooth, a little thinner than expected. Overall, enjoyable, very easy to drink, and I like the complexity with this.

Nitro. From a bottle with Enjoy by date 05/03/15. Appearance is the attraction here, with cascading head from the nitrogen. Mostly black, but not viscous. Aroma is just roasty, not very sweet like I would expect from other milk stouts. Maybe hidden by the thick, creamy head. Taste follows nose, just roasted malts, and not sweet at all. There’s a chalky taste that dries the mouth. Generally underwhelmed.

35,5cl bottle at Parkteatret, Oslo. Pours very dark brown with a lasting beige head. Moderate roasty aroma with notes of milk chocolate, caramel and hints of hops. Medium sweet with mild roasty flavours and a fairly balanced bitterness. Tasty and enjoyable.

This is, hands down, my favorite milk stout. Perfect sweetness from the milk sugars, well balanced and rich. Poured with a head, it's almost too pretty to drink.
